The debt ceiling compromise is the end of the liberal dream that the Obama presidency would do for the left what Ronald Reagans time in office did for the right.
Stanley Greenberg, one of the best pollsters anywhere and a leading intellectual light of the Democratic party, has a must read in the NY Times on the mysterious inability of Democrats to turn widespread public support on individual issues into a stable governing majority.
Its perplexing. When unemployment is high, and the rich are getting richer, you would think that voters of average means would flock to progressives, who are supposed to have their interests in mind and who historically have delivered for them.
Yet they dont. Why, Greenberg asks, do so many voters tune the Democrats out. And what can the Democrats do to win them back?
That hes asking these questions at all is a testament to the colossal failure of Democrat hopes in the aftermath of the 2008 presidential election. The transformational President failed to bring about the Great Realignment Democrats thought they saw. Healthcare was a poisoned chalice; the debt ceiling bill was a disaster. The electorate keeps trending right and the Democratic establishment, more than thirty years after Ronald Reagans inauguration, is no closer to solving the problem of the New Right than it was when Jimmy Carter turned the White House over to the Gipper.

This is the new Jacksonian surge, and progressives will have to dig deeper than even Stan Greenberg has yet done to figure out how to come to terms with it.

Most people have heard the stories of their grandparents about the great depression. Their stories do not jibe with the trash that most historians put out. The truth has a way of slipping out and those who work for a living see right through the propaganda.
It’s so simple. “unemployment is high, and the rich are getting richer, you would think that voters of average means would flock to progressives, who are supposed to have their interests in mind and who historically have delivered for them.”
A couple of reasons.
Usually we get into these situations because progressives are in control, so people turn to the “non ruling” party.
Secondly, it’s where the rubber meets the road. The Dems can tell people all they want, “It’s the evil Wall streeters!” But people go into work, and the boss says, I’m sorry, I’m going to have to lay you off. There’s no work out there. My expenses are too high. And the expenses are all government mandated ones.
Curious if you had a sort of maniacal grin on your face when you posted this scrambled leftist brains dissertation?
I say that as humor. I’m sitting here shaking my head repeating to the wall behind my screen “no hoper”, “no hoper”.
I quit reading about halfway. Had to in order to retain my sanity.
the answer’s because obama doesn’t share the same goals as greenberg.
in other words, obama the ideologue has no intention of improving jobs etc
because he wants to destroy the u.s. economy.
Government operates by the wrong values and rules, for the wrong people and purposes, the Americans Ive surveyed believe. Government rushes to help the irresponsible and does little for the responsible.
At bottom, the source of The Progressive Crisis is that progressives place no value on character.
See Clinton, Bill.
And if anything is to be desired in an elected official, it is character. Not education. Not social status. Character.
The final determinant of anybody's vote for President should be: Do I trust this man (woman) to lead the nation's children in a war?
If the answer is "yes", that person deserves your vote -- regardless of party. Whether they went to school at Yale...or in Idaho.

watching CNN is painful.
FOX's Megyn Kelly vs CNN's Candy Crowley....we report you decide....
Dan Kauffman wrote, ‘You can see the result when Progressives and the Liberal Media react to grassroots movements like the Tea Party with all the outraged horror of a Master Class witnessing the start of a Slave Rebelion.’
The original party of slavery now wants to enslave everyone with good intentions that are worse than useless and more taxes.
