We are told there is a time critical element to this whole process, though it seems that Tuesday may NOT be as hard and fast a deadline as we're led to believe. Has Boehner promised that he will keep the 72 hr rule..that a bill MUST be online for that time period before voting on it.
Why? The fix is in. Game over. Republicans betray us again.
So far all those who said they would cave months ago, have been wrong. Let’s just see what they do before we get upset. If there’s a problem the phones will be ringing off the hook in washington. Hope you call, if you are upset.
But, but, don’t you understand, this is SERIOUS, so all those “slow things down” rules have to be suspended for the “good of the Country...” What a bunch of crapola we are being dealt by so many politicians interested in self rather than doing what is honorable and right...makes me sick!
I guess you didn’t hear about the new rule. You have to pass the bill to see what’s in it.
That deadline has always been BS.
Bohner bought it though, which doesn't help our side.
Hoping the House gets their mind right... working the speed dial.
“We are going to get something hideous from the Senate, and we need time to study it, and let our representatives know what we think.”
A concise explanation of why the rule was circumvented!
What Bill? If it has to do with “Ways and Means” it has to originate from the House.
Correct. Lots of "cry wolf" on this board IMO.
They’ll do a temporary extension if they have to. They’re waiting to see the Asian market’s response.
I think some of them are trolls. Trying to stir the pot. Freepers don’t believe them.
Depends.
They can Untable something and gut it.
That did not happen and won’t happen.
However, there have been plenty of Freepers who have saying the GOP would cave.
The vitriol against Boehner here has reminded me of DU.
I”m still puzzled at how a spending bill could originate in the Senate - when the Constitution says such bills must originate in the House of Representatives.
The rule doesn't say what you believe it says. It is not a "72-hour" rule but "3 calendar day" rule. A (disgraced) Anthony Weiner objection in March over the NPR defunding bill brought this to light.
(b) THREE-DAY AVAILABILITY FOR UNREPORTED MEASURES.In rule XXI, add the following new clause: 11. It shall not be in order to consider a bill or joint resolution which has not been reported by a committee until the third calendar day (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, or legal holidays except when the House is in session on such a day) on which such measure has been available to Members, Delegates, and the Resident Commissioner. They are in pro-forma session today so if a new bill went online Sunday--public posting meets the "available" requirement above--before midnight strikes, it's within the "3 calendar day" rule and they could then vote any time on Tuesday.
However, it's not even clear if the rule applies to this bill.
Other reading suggests it doesn't apply to emergency bills (some may disagree but I think this one arguably will be seen as one) and, of course, the rule can be suspended anyway.
It’s official now. Republicans caved.
