Boston Mayor Tom Menino's disgraceful comments regarding illegal aliens created quite a stir yesterday, with our posts on it receiving nearly 3,000 comments in just a few hours on Facebook. To recap, Menino said that car theft by illegals wasn't serious enough to warrant deportation, and thus he would try to yank Boston from the outstanding and effective 'Secure Communities' program whereby fingerprints of arrested illegals are sent to ICE, increasing their chances of being deported.
Let's first review what Menino said:
Most comments on the website ran against Menino. Today, the Mayor apologized for his comments by bizarrely saying he didn't have the luxury of a teleprompter on morning television:
Ok, so he sort of apologized. But was it for the right statements? Frankly what really disturbed us most was not the car theft a "minor" crime stuff at all. Let's break down some of the most alarming statements uttered by Mayor Menino, which got far less attention and which truly mark a historic low-point for an American politician at any level regarding illegal immigration.

In Detroit, the thugs ripped off and stripped the Mayor’s car. Maybe the same fate will befall Merino in his sanctuary city!
He is a BOSTON DEMOCRAT politician - there are NO HIGH POINTS FOR THEM - EVER.
“LOW” IS NORMAL; so is “CORRUPT”, “STUPID”, “ANAL” and “LIBERAL FOOL”.
Liberal democrats: the enemy within.
Whoops. Gonna need a translator here.
You scrimp and save, and go into debt to buy a vehicle to use for work, shopping, visiting friends and family, going to church, the usual things ugly Americans do with their cars, and some scumbag from Mexico steals it. He is, after all, entitled to your car because he is less fortunate than you, and he is here to do the work you, as a lazy American, won’t do. Not having done anything to earn your car, the illegal doesn’t worry about drinking and driving, and smashing your car into an American family, killing all the kids, mom and dad, and the family dog. He gets out, and leaves the scene with a drunk friend who was following him in another stolen car. But not to worry; he won’t be deported. Americans are enlightened multiculturalists.
(yawn) This guy will be re-elected again and again, as long as his handlers think he’s a useful dupe. Or, until he’s indicted like most other Boston-area Democrat thug politicians.
Massachusetts is as hopeless as it gets. Except for California.
Yeah. Time for English Only for Boston mayors. Wow.
Why should he apologize? He put himself out there as some super-smart, educated guy that can lead the City of Boston. Therefore, one could assume that he thinks before he talks and knows that the f**k he’s talking about. He uttered his true feelings, got called out on it and is now trying to backtrack. Typical POS politician, proving that all they do is say whatever it is they need to say to get votes. I’d be that if it was his car or a family members car, he wouldn’t be saying all that s**t.
I wouldn’t worry about car theft either, if my ride was an umarked Boston PD car with a driver and I had had a Boston PD marked car stationed outside my house on a dead end street in Roslindale 24/7 for the last 22 years.
He is supposed to be retiring at the end of his current term. His sixth. 6th. You heard me right.
Menino is something of an accidential mayor. When Ronald Reagan (!) appointed Ray Flynn Ambassador to the Vatican, the Boston City Council was tasked with finding his replacement. There were two leading contenders, neither of whom had a majority of the votes, so both threw their support to Menino as a caretaker Mayor until an election could be held. As mayor, Menino proved to be ruthless in rewarding friends and punishing enemies and he managed to cement enough support to retain the Democratic nomination and that was sufficient to be elected, Boston is absolutely a one party town.
Wasn’t he mayor flynns driver? Obviously qualified to be mayor
No, he was a city counciler from Rosindale. Seriously, would hire him as a driver?
From the Globe:
Many politicians served stints as drivers. To mention just a few:
Tom Menino chauffeured Boston mayoral hopeful Joe Timilty, but only Menino propelled himself to the mayors office. Stephen Murphy, the new president of the Boston City Council, drove the late Boston City Councilor Dapper ONeil, who drove Boston Mayor James Michael Curley.
There was also the controversy of Menino’s driver being named superintendent of the BPD.
