The 51st state should be named South California, says Jeff Stone, a Republican on the the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. But the proposed 13 southern California counties that would split off from the Golden State would not include Los Angeles.
Stone told the Times' Phil Willon that the ommission is intentional and is part of a plan that would make for a new conservative Californian state.

It would be great if it could be done, not that I expect it. Can it be done legally?

Hey! What about us Northern Californians? We want to go with you. We're more Conservative than you are.
That's a fine how-do-you-do. You take all our water and then leave us high and dry.
Jerks.
No! Wait! I was just kidding! I love you guys! Take us with you!

Maybe instead of South California, it could be East California.

I'm thinking something a little more creative.
Like Reagansylvania or Gipperburgh or something like that.

I think they should take the SF bay area (Oakland included) and make them their own state and split the rest in two. Northern California, South California and liberal California.

We need some coastline, though. There's pretty much nothing north of Ft. Bragg.
Oh. Except Eureka. We can work around that.
'Course we'll have to figure out how to keep Humboldt county and the rest of those hippie communes in Fleabagifornia.
But it's worth a try.

Can’t just have the East. The “new” state needs a port. This happened back in the 1800’s when a mining town called “Rough & Ready” set up a whole new country- they didn’t like unsupported mandates and taxes. Nobody overstressed about it until July 4th or so rolled around and nobody in the “old”country would sell them liquor. Probably the fastest formation and dissolution of a country on record.
If it didn’t happen over water in the 60’/70/80’s, won’t happen now even if we could get liquor. :>)

“Is there a chance for Illinois to split in two?”
You mean to separate downstate from Chicago? If this succeeds (the odds are against it), who knows?

This means a few more people will find out about it. Is there any chance at all of this happening?

"But the proposed 13 southern California counties that would split off from the Golden State would not include Los Angeles."Taking LA would kind of defeat the purpose wouldn't it? LA is a third-world city with legacy infrastructure.

Rush Limbaugh once said he'd move to Rio Linda if they changed the name to Rio Limbaugh.
That's a good name for a state.
