President Obama today said that the "best" place to find additional tax revenue is by raising the top marginal tax rate. It's actually by growing the economy.

Take this article and others I found to the fight to the Libs on their own turf; put the Left on the defensive at at Digg and at Reddit and in Stumbleupon and Delicious

We really don't want the government to get more revenue, of any sort.

Never give money to a spendthrift.

The answer is simple: gut the current income tax system and at least replace it with the Forbes flat-rate income tax plan. Watch the tax revenue zoom through the roof because under the Forbes plan, American industry will be booming because of one of the lowest corporate income tax rate in the world and the fact corporations no longer need to outsource a large fraction of jobs, factories and even corporate headquarters for tax avoidance reasons.

MINIMUM TAX

ON EVERYBODY.

All legal entities, individuals, corporations, universities, foundations, non-profits(HA HA) unions, PACs churches, no exceptions everybody to pay at least something.

Usual rates apply unless deductions, tax breaks etc get below minimums at which case the minimums kick in. Say 2 % for individuals up to $1 million, 5 % for everybody else.

Too many fat cats and privileged groups getting a free ride

Pull the communist inspired, class warfare inducing, income tax code out by it’s roots and replace it with something much more in keeping with what our founders envisioned! A National Retail Sales Tax as proposed in a bill currently before both house of congress commonly know as the FairTax bill!

If we did that one thing our economy would grow like no person alive in this country today has ever seen resulting in an abundance of new taxpayers and thus revenue to the government!

lol When the union bosses see your comments they’ll have one set of headaches, but at least sales on anti-pain medication would go up.

Liberals do not care about revenue. To a liberal, taxes are for social engineering. In this case, it’s about getting Republicans to break their “no new taxes” pledge.

Just do what we did here in California -- tax Amazon.com purchases.

Oh. Wait. That didn't work out the way we thought it would.

The bummer is we already allocatd the 300 or so million dollars we thought it would bring in.

Instead, now we are going to lose about 50 million dollars in revenue.

Dang. Couldn't've see that one coming.

Federal, State, and local governments spend 55% of our incomes already. If that isn’t enough then it is time to abolish these governments and start over.

“Where’s the Best Place to Get More Tax Revenue?”

To answer your question, Nina, restore the payroll tax to what it had been for years, until that odd temporary payroll tax reduction dreamed up in the 2010 lame-duck session. The very idea of a payroll tax reduction seemed out of place and must have put in there for some Machiavellian reason, especially just as trust fund revenues
begin to not cover SocSec expenditures. I suspect the powers-that-be want to conflate social security spending with the other parts of the budget, and it is easier to justify doing so by saying “see, social security is no longer in the black too, so lets cut payments to recipients of social security (and medicare) along with the cuts to government programs that depend on general revenue sources.

Where's the Best Place to Get More Tax Revenue?

From people now on welfare, unemployment and other government support who've been moved off support into decent paying jobs. And that's also the only thing that will ever get this nation back into a financially sound situation of balanced budgets and a decreasing national debt burden.

Not simple, but until some solutions are found none of the old favorites will get us out of this serious financial situation.
