A Tennessee man sustained a punctured lung and cracked ribs following a brutal beating from a team of police deputies - while he already in handcuffs.
After being stripped naked, the man was kicked and shocked repeatedly with a Taser gun. The January 23 incident was caught on tape by video equipment fixed to the vehicle of a Humphreys county sheriff deputy.
The victim, Darren T. Ring, 34, of New Johnsonville is requesting to be released from jail where he has been held in lieu of bond for more than five months.
Humpreys County deputies descended on Ring after responding to a report of gunshots in Waverly. Ring was not arrested for firing the shots but was drunk when the deputies arrived, reports show.
In a grand jury indictment, Ring was charged with three counts of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and a parole violation.
However, the video footage shows deputies repeatedly telling Ring to stop resisting arrest while he is incapacitated laying facedown in the snow with at least two deputies on top of him

I think that the kicking, clubbing, and possibly subsequent tazing is what’s going to get the deputies in trouble.
We'll see, the DA has already turned this over to TBI. There is a lot of stuff on the complete video that we just can't see or see clearly. Witnesses would have had a better sense of what went down, assuming at least one was sober enough to have a clear memory.
From what I could see on the complete video, I don't see the force used up to and through the first Tazing to be excessive, given the perp refused to show his hands and then resisted and it appears one cop took some kind of blow to his head. I think the use of kicks and clubs after the first tazing is the real problem here. I can see why the cops tazed him the first time - two were probably exhausted and one possibly injured and they were not in any shape to force physical compliance at that point. 14 minutes is a long time to be in a wrestling match with a drunk nutbar.
I think the perp set himself up for multiple tazing - he was uncooperative before the first tazing, was he still being uncooperative or unable to move at that point? How can the cops know at that point? And what were the departmental guidelines for multiple Tazings? There probably needs to be standards regarding multiple tazings if the first one could render a person unable to move.
Okay. Well that was a very well stated response. I will adjust my thinking to say that this was a smallish overstep.
If you don’t see things my way I’m gonna kick the $hit out of you! Just kidding, FRiend.
Quit Resisting....Settle Down!
Many years aago I ran a detox evenings and nights. It was over a mens shelter. A wet shelter for those of you who know. Police used to drop off men to the shelter when there was an open bed.
One night I heard some scuffling. Two cops were whaling the tar out of some drunk. I came out and leaned over and said something to the effect: dont you think he has had enough? They stopped and left.
I drove a high profile car back then.
About a week later I was pulled over in the middle of town with five police cars surrounding my car. My infraction, a late inspection sticker. The police beaters called in the other cars. When the other guys realized that this was the beaters game, they slowly left. I was told I would have to have the car towed to the nearest station. Then they said, no, nevermind.
I will never forget that police intimidation. I never assume the news in real.
My 2 cents:
I have seen drunks take on and whip 4-5 guys at one time. I have also seen a handcuffed drunk kick the door OFF a Sheriffs car! My. BIL cop. was shot, when just entering a store to by gum, because he wore a uniform. I was in Miami during the McDuffie affair!
I’m not saying there is not some bad cops just don’t spray paint them all as bad.
Take a ride along some night with a local LEO. You may be surprised
I get awards from my major international corporate client that they normally only give to their own employees, jerk. Shove it where it don’t shine ... sideways.
