Canada is getting more conservative all the time. Any opinions?

If it were only warmer. I have never considered living in another country and probably still wouldn’t because of family, but the thought of another eight years of Obama makes me think about it.

Sure, I have an opinion. Gay marriage and harassment of Catholics and other Christians and social conservatives isn't conservative. And don't try to take your handguns.

Unfortunately the areas of Canada with the most appealing weather (Vancouver, Victoria) are still amongst the most liberal section of Canada. The Okanagan Valley is mild in climate and beautiful, though I am not aware of how that area is politically.

If you can tolerate the climate, Alberta is probably the most conservative Provence in the country.

Their horrible socialized health care system is enough to keep me from considering it. Then, of course, there is the anti-gun mentality and laws, the thought police (must not criticize homosexuals or Muslims!), the increasing number of Muslims there, and the weather - cold enough to freeze a well-digger’s butt, as my mother used to say.

I lived there for seven years. Cold eight months of the year in most provinces, expensive, their medical care is rationed, "human rights tribunals" will prosecute you for "wrong thinking" (just ask Mark Steyn,) PC foolishness even worse than the US...that's a start.

Alberta.

To those of you who hold to the line “this is my country” and denigrate those who have left or will leave, just remember our ancestors left their country. Do you hold them in contempt?

Our country was founded on ideas. The most radical of which was that the governments powers were to be limited. Its powers were enumerated and very limited so that, except for a very short list of governmental powers, we were to be a free people. That is no longer the case. My “country” is were people hold to those ideals and anyone who holds to those ideals is my countryman regardless of geography.

Our country, as freedom consuming as our government has become, may still be the best for freedom. That is not a compliment to the USA but a sad comment on the state of freedom across the globe.
