Ex MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has given a revealing interview to The Hollywood Reporter, which includes the amazing tidbit that Olbermanns new job in the cable wilderness of Current TV will pay him ten million dollars a year (with the possibility of banking $100 million over the course of his five year contract)a staggering figure that dwarfs his MSNBC salary (and THR reports that Current TV disputes the figure but adds it does not disclose confidential, contractual details).
Olbermann, who discussed his new show and his departure from MSNBC, said he went on the air January 21 without knowing it was his last show. A team including Olbermanns agents, his manager, MSNBC president Phil Griffin, and an NBC lawyer were negotiating in the building as the show went on, reaching a decision to part ways about thirty minutes into the show. Olbermann says since his exit, he has not spoken to MSNBC star Rachel Maddow:
There were lots of people who were forced to choose sides. And particularly in Rachels case, I didnt want to add to the pressure on her already. The last thing I need to do is be calling her up and saying, Hows that Michael Steele working out for you? [He signed to NBC as a political analyst on May 23.] Which is exactly what I would do if I were in the office.
In the story, which can be read in its entirety here, Olbermann also confirms he has hired David Shuster as his primary substitute anchor for the Current show.
Does this ‘’Current’’ station receive any Federal tax payer money
So since being the head of the RNC, he’s now a political analyst with them?
Why would they even vote for such a slime ball?
Wow — that is a million dollars per viewer.
Must be a hot market out there for loud-mouthed, arrogant Dorks. Even LIEberal schmucks can make a sensational living from the evil capitalists while trashing the system itself.
Meanwhile the best and brightest among us often go unheralded and unrewarded in this life. C’EST LA VIE!
Oh, I’m pretty sure Keith pulled that number out of his a**.
Wow that is a million dollars per viewer.
And, nine million, nine hundred, ninety-nine thousand more than he is worth.
They whole idea of communications media evolving may be true, in the long run, but iut's still a long way off. Ultimately you still have to have eyeballs and/or ears watching/listening..to make an impact, AND attract advertisers.
Stern used to be ALL over the MSM every day..he took his show to Sirius, and nobody talks about him anymore. Same for Imus....he always generated a buzz..was a must watch/listen..now, on FOX Business..with minimal viewers..he's a sideshow..an afterthought..
“...will pay him ten million dollars a year (with the possibility of banking $100 million over the course of his five year contract)”
And these clowns all gleefully whine and cry about “CEO pay”. I guess because they’re more deserving and are more special. Some nerve...and hypocrisy.
An unwatchable host on an unwatched network. That should go well.
Current pulls 25,000 viewers on a good day, not even enough to show up on Neilson. Their total income from advertising last year was only $40 million. Most of that was pity money and PSA’s.
Olbermann’s numbers are total hogwash. He was lured to CurrentTV by shame, hubris and an equity stake. Equity in nothing.
Current is the Air America of cable. (Air Who?)
Gore and some other communist bigwigs will pull together $20 million or so for an ad campaign (which will air on CNN and MSNBC), toss a little to Olbermann, and then fail.
Every dollar they give him is a dollar that doesn’t go to promotion so they are guaranteed to fail.
Best of all, that’s $20+ million that won’t go to Obama.
ahhh yeah...show me your pay stub Olberdork.
Which it won't.
I see that Keith had to go to the Hollywood Reporter to get any ink on himself.
actually its not in $$$- its in wampum- which may soon be worth more than dollars...
Sanctimoniously attack conservatives and the rich for being greedy while bragging in an interview about how you make $10 million +. Hold childish grudges against former colleagues. Yep, he’s still a Leftist.
You mean his head wasn't in the way???
there is no way his new station has that kind of money
