Caffeinated Thoughts has learned that Herman Cain lost yet another Iowa staffer. Charlie Gruschow, former leader of the Des Moines Tea Party, resigned from the campaign on Sunday to pursue other interests. Gruschow had been an early supporter and activist for Cain having been with him since last year even though he was only on the payroll since May. This is the third Iowa staffer that Cain has lost over the holiday weekend. Tina Goff, Cains Iowa State Director, and Kevin Hall, his Ames Straw Poll Coordinator, resigned amidst frustration that Cain is not making a serious effort in Iowa.
Their complaints seem valid. Between May 1st through July 2nd Cain has participated in only four town hall events. He also gave a couple of quick appearances (like the Strong American Now Conference) in Iowa. Yesterday he made two stops in Iowa Winterset and Indianola, and now hes on the east coast. He just has not done serious campaigning in Iowa.
His campaign seems to be employing a nationwide strategy that doesnt make sense in a primary race
[....]
One rumor has been confirmed however
the rumor about a staffer engaging in homosexual conduct is true. This refers to Scott Toomey who is openly gay and before working for the campaign was the treasurer for a gay pride organization in Wisconsin (he was removed as treasurer prior to an investigation of the organizations finances). Stacy McCain reports that he is a former employee, but he is still listed as an advisor with POLITICO. This sheds some light on Cains remarks in Pella about being willing to hire a homosexual, because he has already done so.

Much ado about nothing. Non news. Trying to stir up something.
No big loss. Herman Cain is a boutique candidate with zero chance of going anywhere. The presidency is not an entry-level position. The sooner Cain drops out, the better. We need to clarify our situation with a healthy dose of reality.
Bye Herman.
Not sure whom Cain was counting on to vote for him or what states whe could possibly win in a primary? Maybe he can be Commerce Secretary in the coming conservative administration. Newt Gingrich is already looking forward to being the head of NASA in 2013.
I wan’t Cain in the Palin cabinet. He’s a American leader. The best political line came from him. Defending Fathers. I don’t know if that was just a political line, but I love it. Should’ve added Defending Mothers, though!
Cain and Palin will make fine additions to the cabinet in the DeMint administration come 2013.
NO ONE should be making ANY effort in that stupid caucus. Ignore it, terminate every penny to ethanol and farms subsidies.
If Perry enters the race then he owns it.
Obviously Perry has Palin Derangement Syndrome.
I have no problem with Cain on the issues, but as a candidate he and his campaign has real serious organizational problems that need addressed NOW or he’ll be out by South Carolina.
“Newt Gingrich is already looking forward to being the head of NASA in 2013.”
He does fly off into outer space on occasions.
As of today, meaning things can certainly change for the better but:
Newt, Cain are gone. These two had a better chance compared to the other low ringers like Paul, Johnson, Santorum...et, but they are falling apart.
Pawlenty is in serious trouble because of his ‘NO Charisma’...he can’t seem to gain any foothold because he is like the forgotten man.
Freefall? Right.
This is old news that has already been discussed here - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2742991/posts. Bottom line - the departures will be a positive thing - because of who departed and why (egos, greed, old school thinking, etc).
Herman Cain has already had 22 visits to Iowa since announcing his campaign, and around 16 to New Hampshire... and he has committed a great deal of resources to that process despite rumors otherwise.
He already has replacements (see press release below). He has the highest positive intensity rating on Gallup this week - http://www.gallup.com/poll/148382/Huntsman-Unable-Generate-Positive-Intensity-Far.aspx, he is third in the Des Moines poll and his Q2 fundraising is 2.64 million.
Press release:
“Iowa Team Announced
Please join us in welcoming our team in Iowa! Led by state director Larry Tuel, the Iowa team will focus on the upcoming Ames straw poll in August, as well as strengthening our already solid relationship with Iowa voters. The field staff will also include Lisa Lockwood, Zach Dalluge and Steven Hensler.
We will celebrate the grand opening of our Iowa state headquarters on Monday, July 11, 2011. An invitation with additional details will follow. Herman and members of the national staff will be there for the big day, and the event will be open to the public and the press. Please join us for this special milestone!”

It sure does amaze me that anyone who calls themselves “conservative” would be so quick to celebrate the fall of a fellow conservative.
Has to make you wonder, huh?
This is not OLD NEWS! Charlie Grushcrow a TEA Party guys, is the third person to leave, your link is about the first two Cain Iowa staff members who left. This is not about them!. This is news plus the news of a homosexual act caught in the campaign by a staffer that is causing disruptions within.
It IS old news, because he has already replaced the Iowa team (duh) they knew these resignations were coming.
And the other rumor is ridiculous.
Do you not SEE what you are doing? It is the SAME thing that the left does to Palin. Lies, inuendo, misinformation, exaggeration.
What a double standard you have.
Oh, and just so you know, none of his Iowa staff that left were “tea party” people. That was part of the problem. There are people on FR who have worked in Iowa politics and they know exactly what I am talking about.
(It sure does amaze me that anyone who calls themselves conservative would be so quick to celebrate the fall of a fellow conservative.

It sure does. And it does not matter from what conservative candidate/camp it comes from. In my way of thinking this type of petty arse sniping or glee at the misfortune of another conservative candidate is definitely not helpful to our (Conservative) cause.
“It sure does amaze me that anyone who calls themselves conservative would be so quick to celebrate the fall of a fellow conservative.”
I agree, JSN, I just don’t get it.
And thanks for the update!
