Matthews: Republican Refusal To Raise Taxes In Debt Negotiations Is ‘Terrorism’
Mediaite ^ | July 5, 2011 | Matt Schneider

Chris Matthews is scared that the Tea Party influence on Republicans may result in this country going off the cliff and soon resembling Greece. Matthews told his guest Joan Walsh that he sees “fanatics” who don’t believe the deadline for raising the debt ceiling is real and who seem very willing to let the country default on its loan obligations. And Walsh provided Matthews with little comfort to soothe his fears.

Walsh described the Republican position throughout these budget negotiations as “economic hostage-taking” and urged President Obama not to cave into this “shrieking on the right” that continues to unreasonably demand no taxes can be increased. Walsh also pleaded with Matthews, “please don’t put me on the far left because I’m not.” Matthews worried we will soon be viewed as a “deadbeat country” and argued there is no way to have a compromise without raising taxes.

Then in the final moments, as Walsh wrapped up her point about the need for Republicans to keep tax increases on the table, Matthews blurted out “I agree it’s terrorism.” The random statement was odd since nobody suggested anything about terrorism, leaving Matthews to not really “agree” with anyone. Maybe Matthews was just eager to wrap-up the segment and dropped such an extreme comparison to get Walsh to agree and stop talking, or maybe Matthews really thinks a stubborn Republican economic position amounts to terrorism? Either way, the rhetoric certainly seems to be heating up.

If I were in bad financial straits, I think I’d have better things to do than publicizing the moronic rantings of a barely-watched cable drunkard. But hey, that’s just me.

I suppose we could raise taxes for people who work for the government, particularly in ‘less constitutional’ fields like health, welfare, housing, education, agriculture, and medicine.

No, refusing to deeply cut spending is terrorism. Every demand they make is instantly legitimate, and any effort of us to stop them is terrorism. LOL

If I understand what Matthews is saying, he is admitting that then Senator Barack Obama, who voted against raising the Debt Ceiling, was a Terrorist rather than just being a Friend of Terrorist Bill Ayers.

Is this correct?

Wouldn’t changing the tax code in debt negotiations be the crime here? Law abiding citizens get squeezed, while frivolous Democrats get to continue their wasteful spending spree. Wake up Leftball!!

HEY CHRIS!

What do you call Obama’s unwillingness to cut spending to the level the Debt Ceiling is raised?

he's kind of right. we're going to resemble Greece soon but it isn't the fault of republicans who are trying to reign in debt.

I am very happy to see that my former country of residence, Slovakia, is second only to the much smaller country of Luxemburg.
I wonder why The Czech Republic is not listed.

Matthews, like so many “journalists” has either been comprised into saying absurd and unbelievable things or is the “journalist whore” paid to say the same equally absurd or unbelievable drivel. The compromise consists of blackmail because the “journalist” has some very unseemly background that he does not want made public. My guess is that Matthews is some combination of the same toxic mixture. He has something to hide and someone is handsomely paying him to parrot whatever they are paying for. It pays well, he believes his reputation is intact, but for the thinking man he is nothing but a buffoon of the lowliest and most crass example. Matthews and his ilk are nothing but jokes and their handlers know it as well as those of us with the ability to discern garbage from the real deal. Matthews is a con man running on empty. Sad and pathetic and destined for epic fail.
