"Imagine this had happened under a Republican administration." Name a Republican president who would have been stupid enough to dream up this scheme. Admittedly, I wouldn't put it past Nixon to engage in some sort of intrigue to undermine and embarass his political opponents, but IMHO, I think even he would have drawn the line when it came to endangering innocent American lives.

Of course you are right, but that is entirely beside my (I thought OBVIOUS) point, which is that the media is silent on this.
