Former Obama administration green jobs czar Van Jones is trying to build a liberal Tea Party movement by denying the federal budget crisis.
The left-wing champion launched his liberal Tea Party movement, which hes dubbed the Rebuild the Dream movement, at a Thursday night event in New York City.
We are being lied to, Jones said. We are not broke. Were the richest country in the history of the world.
The Rebuild the Dream website once echoed the same meme. MoveOn Civic Action & The Other 98% teamed up to keep the message going: We Are Being Lied To, read the movements mission statement on rebuildthedream.com. The country isnt broke and the last thing we should be doing is gutting workers rights and cutting vital services American families depend on.
The website took that paragraph down sometime between June 13 and now. On June 13, The Daily Caller asked Jones to provide examples and statistics to prove the country isnt broke. Jones never responded.
Jones told the Washington Post he thinks liberals can do what the tea party did.
They stepped forward under a common banner, and everybody took them seriously, he said. Polls suggest there are more people out there who have a different view of the economy, but who have not stepped forward yet under a common banner.
Who are they going to confiscate the wealth from to start the building?
Also a major reason people cling to their religion. Not necessarily the only reason, but a common one among people who don't really believe in it anymore.

Liberals have tried and failed a bunch of times
WASHINGTON POST: Can Liberals Start Their Own Tea Party? Well, weve had the Coffee Party, the Brownbaggers, The Other 95%, A New Way Forward, the One Nation Movement am I leaving any out? I cant remember and none of them has gone much beyond a spot of initial positive coverage from the NYT. So, probably not. But apparently, Van Jones is going to try again with the The American Dream Movement. I hear hes got a catchy slogan, too: From Each According To His Abilities, To Each According To His Needs. Or maybe its Death to the Kulaks! Im not sure . . . .
UPDATE: A reader emails:
Liberals have their own Tea Party. Witness the events in Madison, Wisc. and other state capitals earlier this year. Liberals were able to gather significant numbers of passionate protesters in a short period of time. Public sector unions are the liberal Tea Party. The problem for liberals is that they need to extend their appeal beyond that narrow base. The Tea Partys success is driven by the fact that it has gathered people with diverse viewpoints and united them on the single issue of government spending and taxes. As long as the battle lines are public sector unions vs. everyone else, liberals will continue to lose the debate.
Indeed. And another reader emails: You left out the No Labels crowd. A bigger bunch of liberals would be hard to find. Oh, right. Its hard to keep track.
Meanwhile, from Jim Treacher, my favorite Coffee Party headline: The schism in the Coffee Party is so bad, they split up into two different booths at Dennys.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Richard Samuelson writes: But can the Left, which for a couple of generations now, has argued that progress ought to be made by officially sanctioned, government approved and organized organizations take on a movement that is truly voluntary, truly spontaneous, and not organized from above? If part of the fight is civil society v. central planning, then, by definition, the Left is going to have a hard time competing for the grassroots, outside of unions, democratic activists, and the rest of the professional Left.
“Commie Rich”
Well sure! Just harness that outrage! Here's some example slogans:
In fact, the first president of the NAACP was a white Republican, btw.
The REAL outrage is that they will be given our tax money to run their scam. Plus luxury perks for the top dogs.
Excellent!
Even with clandestine financial support and "news" media support, the "central planners" will fail.
I can see it now, several closed-door meetings to brainstorm "movement" goals and objectives (which will sound like something from the Simbionese Army), followed by a vague (and unpublished) list of what they want their disinterested servants to do and say.
Even with assistance from union thugs working to try to overcome the inertia of the "movement", it will fail from top to bottom.
.
The Left is comprised of cults rigidly segregated. No chance of this happening, imagine the zero population/AGW cult trying to share a space with the minorities’ bling collectors cults, what do they have in common?
It’s not broke. Just ask Michael Moore. The wealth is in the wrong hands. It’s in the hands of Pelosi, Reid, the obamas.......They don’t really want to change anything other than getting more money to themselves.
The argument by the left that we are not broke is based on the assumption that they can forcefully take money from us, the people who produce things. That is the money they are talking about. They however fail to understand the basic economic principle of once the money is gone there will be no one or nothing left to produce.
the country isn’t broke “yet”
but they are working on it!!
Yes. He just doesn’t get it.
Its called the Entitlement Party.
Or the- Where’s my check party.
What? Van Jones is starting a newspaper??
re-branding ACORN for 2012?
