United On Pot: Leftist Frank And Libertarian Ron Paul
Weekend Libertarian ^ | June 24, 2011 | B.P. Terpstra

Recently, I quoted, Ann Coulter on libertarians: “They lure you in with talk of small government and then immediately start babbling about drug legalization or gay marriage.”

She’s right you know. In more recent news, the Los Angeles Times reports that the drugs-first libertarian Ron Paul has teamed up with Big Government “gay marriage” Democrat Barney Frank, to introduce a bill to end the so-called war on marijuana.

It screams soft-on-border politics, naturally. “The legislation would limit the federal government’s role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or inter-state smuggling, allowing people to legally grow, use or sell marijuana in states where it is legal,” according to a statement posted on Reason, a drugs-first libertarian website, known for censoring opponents.

For years, “libertarians” have advanced the position that the “war on drugs” doesn’t work, but where’s the evidence of war?

In the United States, borders are not defended, and haven’t been so for decades. There, illegal immigrants freely roam her streets. There, drug-using role model celebrities are often given light sentences, or rehabilitation holidays. The “war” that never was has been described as a “failing war” in order to appease lawless individuals.

I don’t have big issues with legalization but I don’t buy the utopian fantasies.

Besides, how much taxpayer money is this terminal patient of legislation going to waste? Don’t we have other more important issues to deal with right now?

The War on Drugs has become a war on pain patients and doctors. I pray that this bill passes and becomes the first knife in the heart of the DEA.

The question about the “legal pot thing” comes later. Right now the question is the “state’s rights thing”. Yes or No?

I’ve had to deal with potheads many times in my work life, having episodes. There were no libertarians to protect me.

The same Supreme Court reasoning that gave the government the ability to persecute cannabis users also gave the federal government the power to legalize abortion. It is the same law that attempts to regulate our right to keep and bear arms. Since you are not from this country I can understand that you do not know our Constitution or anything at all about about the bastardization of the Commerce Clause. American have traded their freedom for a little pottage. Such ignorance on the part of some self proclaimed “conservatives” is simply disgusting.

It’s funny how libertarians say the “war” isn’t working but scream for Nanny when their precious illegal immigrant friends are caught skipping across the border. They instinctively run to protect the lawless – your liberties be damned.

Drugs are bad and are for losers. The War on Drugs is worse.

“Drugs are bad and are for losers. The War on Drugs is worse”???

That’s like saying, rape is bad and rape is for losers, but the war against rape is worse. It is illogical.

But returning to my question: What war on drugs? In case you didn’t notice, your borders are wide open. That’s not a war – that’s called surrender where I live.

You apparently believe that the government can tell you what you must not put into your body. Is that an accurate assumption on my part?
And if it is an accurate assumption on my part do you then believe that the government can tell you what you must put into your body, even if it's against your will?

Barney also has something in common with fellow Congressman Alcee Hastings: a love of “Winsome Packers.”

I’ve had to deal with potheads many times in my work life, having episodes . . .

What is a pothead's episode like?

What causes an episode?
