We are starting this drawdown from a position of strength. Al Qaeda is under more pressure than at any time since 9/11. Together with the Pakistanis, we have taken out more than half of al Qaeda's leadership. And thanks to our intelligence professionals and Special Forces, we killed Osama bin Laden, the only leader that al Qaeda had ever known. - President Obama's speech on Afghanistan withdrawal
Does anyone else really regard this drawdown as happening from a position of strength? I can't help but think America's enemies are paying attention, knowing full well that America was ever divided and never fully committed with the kind of resolve needed to not fall victim to the "graveyard of empires" curse that has befallen world powers that preceded our presence there.
Majority Americans favor withdrawal from Afghanistan according to the polls. They are weary; they are concerned with the economy, perceiving nation-building in Afghanistan as a futile waste of American blood and treasure.
Does anyone really believe that bin Laden was "the only leader al Qaeda had ever known?"

Tell a lie often enough....
He should have listened to the generals.
Is it just me, or is it obvious that his words were just a matter of playing on us all throughout his term? Technically, according to an earlier speech, we would drawdown starting 2011, but I guess until the action happens, we won’t know for sure.
Another “leading from the rear” moment for The Won!
Anyone else smell the bull$hit?
Unless we are going to invade Pakistan or Iran, we have NO BUSINESS in Afghanistan.
Obamas' surge was a really dumb idea...as were previous escalations under Bush.
Let's get ALL the way out of there now before it gets worse...because there is no upside in Afghanistan.
Didn’t mention the guy that went after them in the first place. Obammy did nothing.
He forgot to add “With Honor”

Scuse my dumb but, is the 0 crowing that Al is under more pressure than when it was under no pressure?
Such a deal, R.
When quite accidentally,
A hero who sneezed, abruptly seized
Retreat and reversed it to victory!
His Medal of Honor pleased and thrilled
His proud little family group;
While pinning it on, some blood was spilled
And so it was planned he'd command... F TROOP!
Where Indian fights are colorful sights
And nobody takes a lickin',
Where paleface and redskin
Both turn chicken!
When drilling and fighting get them down
They know their morale can't droop
As long as they all relax in town
Before they resume with a bang and a boom... F TROOP!
It’s a position of strength from his perspective. It strengthens the muzzies and weakens us.

Someone needs to tell Howdy Dumba$$ Doody that nation building begins at HOME, and we are almost out of treasure because he’s spending it along with his wildebeast wife. Many of our glorious heroes died there and all he can think of is me me me!! I can’t stand these people anymore.
That was my take also. Yes, we had to whack some folks for what happened on 9/11, but Nation Building in Afghanistan was always a 'bridge too far'.
They are not even a Nation - just a bunch of islamic tribes that are cobbled together. The only thing that 'might' have help would have been spreading Bibles to these poor folks - but our Government even burned those - rather than offending the tender sensibilities of our islamic hosts.
Anyways, its long past time to get out.
and I always (and still) wonder what this counter-insurgency BS is all about. Afghan is 7th century Islam. It’s to their advantage to lie and deceive. Who came up with COIN? It’s killing our men!
Zer0 is moving us out so China can move in and do some mining.

You better be wrong.
He failed...... He lied and double-talked.... He surrendered..... Conservative Republicans need to expose this fragile, thin veil of a presidential image, held in place by a teleprompter and the piss-stream media. Hopefully Zer0's massive incompetence will move more to vote against him in 2012. We'll see. |
