How was your weekend? Did you read all 24,000 pages of Sarah Palin's emails like you thought you would? Me neither. I went to a barbecue festival instead and sweat like a pig in lipstick. But fear not! Our homework was done for us by the kind folks at AOL. They had writing and reading comprehension experts John Katzman and JJ Payack review 60 randomly selected emails written by Palin, and the result may surprise you. She's corresponding at an eighth grade level.
But wait! There's more. It turns out that an eighth grade level isn't as bad as it sounds. In fact, it's good. Really good. What the what?
Some of you may have been hoping that Palin would be revealed as some illiterate cavewoman -- "Me hungry!" or "Me want talk McCain!" or "Me likey hunty!" -- but during her two years as Governor of Alaska, Palin wrote in a clear, concise, and concerned matter that made her an effective communicator.
Who knew that our nation's eighth graders would make such great CEOs? When I first read that Palin was writing at an eighth grade level, I thought it was an insult. But nope -- the widely used Flesch-Kincaid readability tests generally score top earning executives, politicians, and the ilk at an eighth grade level. For scale, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address ranked at a ninth grade level.
Payack, one of the reading analysts, told AOL:
She's very concise. She gives clear orders. Her sentences and punctuations are logical. She has much more of a disciplined mind than she's given credit for.
I don't want to say I predicted this, but I predicted this. Good for Palin. The emails, so far, have only exposed her to be a critical thinking Governor who can write well, and often. Many of her emails were sent from her BlackBerry, and even those were given a high score. Not as many "LOL"s and emoticons as might have been anticipated.
I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I suppose by now most of her dirty email-laundry has been aired. And what-do-you-know, it's not that dirty. Weiner should pay attention.
What do you think of Palin's emails?
I write technical proposals. The Executive Summary, meant for CEOs and other Heads of Departments, are supposed to be written on the 8th-grade level.
Mogadishu.
She’s not smarter than I thought.
And the Loon-O-Dent is even dumber than I thought.
Sorry MSM, but Sarah is more experienced, smarter, and far, far more moral than the “it” president.
At a reading literacy class I attended we were told that
newspapers such as USA Today and the NY Times are written at
6th grade level.
6th grade is the maximum level needed to explain complex issues in a language, but still can be read and understood by the masses. Any lower and you cannot explain everything and any higher and you start to lose some people in their ability to comprehend issues.
Which reminds me of a joke I like to tell police.
Why do cops like (pick a newspaper)?
Because it’s written at a grade 6 level.
I’d help raise the money for a one-way ticket to any of those locations, wouldn’t you? Although I hear the weather is nice in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
No liberal is going to change his or her mind about Palin or about obama. Their brains don’t work like they’re supposed to.
Who's "we"? Does the author have a mouse in their pocket? "We" already knew how smart she was becuase "we" listed to "her" words and not the LSM!
The Flesch-Kincaid readability score for this article is 5.6.
(I copied it into word and ran it through the Spell and Grammar check.)
you can often tell how intelligent somebody is likely to be by how responsive their eyes are, they more intelligent they are likely.
Huh?
I’m just saying that is my experience. A more intelligent person can process thoughts, acts, their environment, whatever more quickly than a less intelligent person.
They are quicker on the draw, you might say.
That is one thing I knew about Sarah Palin right away was that she was very intelligent.
I was just yanking your chain about the incomplete. ;)
I hope she runs.
Sarah Palin is the consummate professional. Maximally effective with a minimum of fuss. Ahead of schedule, under budget...you don’t even realize she is getting the job done. That’s how smooth she is.
Face facts, please...
When, not "if", Palin wins back most women voters, Barrio Bummer will be back in the back seat of some used Chevy with boy-toy Larry Sinclaire, chomping sausage for a few lines of coke.
You know it, and I know it. Oddly enough, so does Barrio.
8^D
Alaskans chose the best candidate, and maybe had the best Governor because of that. But their unwillingness to stand by their native daughter when she was relentlessly and undeservedly lampooned by the nitwits in the blog/media universe should forever be to their shame. (The preceding verified to be 7th grade level.)
Yes, there is no doubt that the Left does more research than the Right. They knew long before we did that Palin is the real threat to the establishment. Nothing happens by accident... over and over and over again.

That’s so our President can read them without too much assistance.
