So we are preparing for Beyond Thunderdome?

I have provisions in case of a disaster (tornado, earthquake), certainly.

I can’t picture a scenario that would require seeds.

Ask you elders how many depended on their gardens to feed them through the depression.

I'm with you...all good on common sense preparedness, but not with the white sheet/hood hysteria offered up on occasion.

Deep breath time. A whole lotta FReepers need to draw themselves a reality chart.

You have just defined the term "cognative dissonance".

The "Thunderdome" reality you mention is actually a higher probability future than things going back to "normal".

“I can’t picture a scenario that would require seeds.”

Picture an empty grocery store.

My grandparents had a farm with cattle, fruit trees, a garden, and ran a newspaper during the Depression. They were able to barter foodstuffs with those who didn't have any and bartered newspaper ads for merchandise. They had it much easier than most but it was still a very hard time for them. Having seeds to home garden is a wise idea even today. With grocery prices skyrocketing, our garden is helping with the budget.

While I don’t think the coming hard times will be a Mad Max world writ large I do believe that a “victory garden” can be a good thing . Also knowing how to can foods is not really a bad idea either .

Disaster provisions - everyone in the coastal states do this and we just add to them every hurricane season. If the time comes when I need seeds (I have no yard to grow them in) I would need an underground bunker and nukes to keep my stuff from being stolen. I plan not to be here anyway.
