Should have known that you would run once you were faced with the truth.

I really wish Jim would put an ignore tab on threads. This way we could filter out the noise from the signal. Keep up the good work.

“I can normally go 5-6 weeks without *shopping*. I normally keep 6-24 months ahead on many staples, food, paper products, medicines. “

Here in Florida (Hurricane Country) the State analysis has shown 80% of people don’t have 3 DAYS of food or water in their home.

“The second time was the Northridge quake (I was 3 miles form the epicenter). All the local stores were closed for 2 weeks+, but you could drive 1/2 hour or so into Hollywood or or thereabouts and the stores were open and the shelves full.”

I hope you’re right but I’m not willing to bet my life on it.

Not necessarily old school...but sticking to what will be the most available rounds.

Do I want to shoot a AR-15 and a 5.56? No...I really like a .270 for the dogs (known as white-tails) down here in SE TX. But as far as stocking up...you gott be smart. You want the rounds that are most produced...not something that is specialty and gonna be hard to find.

Nearly 40 years ago, I happened to be in the Denver area. There was a trucker strike. The supermarkets emptied out in hours. I split the last 2-quarter pounds of margarine or butter (don’t recall) with a woman who was trying to buy for a family. I was alone and she needed it more than I did. That probably wouldn’t be a common response, today.

Most folks have probably never seen empty stores. But today, after all the hurricanes just a few years ago, to not have some sort of stores is evidence of lack of mental acuity, IMO.

Exactly. Under the sort of pressure produced in such a situation, there would be need for anyone to give any form of order to initiate violence.

A wake-up moment for me personally occurred several years ago when I thought that my knowledge of gardening from my youth would guarantee me a successful garden in my current location. Quite a learning curve it was! Having the knowledge alone is not enough, as my successful garden today has come about by putting the knowledge I had into practice and learning from the results.

“I am still unclear on the scenario being suggested by the OP. And how it would kill 50+ million people in a few days”

This is where I caught him in his lie. He kept saying this same thing over and over again the I (I was the OP) had posted a scenario of millions dead and a ‘Mad Max’ world when clearly what I posted in post #4 was a a Argentina type economic collapse though more a more violent one:

SNIP:I think that we are at the very least in for a collapse much like that of Argentina’s ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index), but as a armed society with a very large entitlement minded population our collapse will be much more violent and I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and large scale violence (look at what happened just this past Memorial Day weekend)and then there is this is going on in Chicago:”Emanuel said he spoke with McCarthy over the weekend and again this morning about the situation. The mayor said the city’s reputation as a safe place to work and shop downtown is being endangered by the thuggery. Many of the attacks are happening near the biggest tourist and shopping attractions in the city.

But, CBS 2’s Jim Williams reports, the problem of mob attacks downtown is much bigger than the weekend beatings, according to beat cops who wanted to remain anonymous.”

And it’s not just Chicago most major big ‘Blue’ cities are increasingly reporting such flash mobs and gang muggings.

I see what I call ‘Pocket Pogroms’ taking place in many big ‘Blue’ cities and if you aren’t a “0bamamites’ yute” it’s going to get Reginald Denny bad for you very quickly.”

And yet he made continual post that I was suggesting that a ‘Mad Max’ world was coming. When I confronted him about suddenly he ran off.

These types are ones which should worry you. If something bad happens and they need something and you have it because you planned for it and they didn’t they will be highly likely to take it from you and will not care how they do it, because not only will they want to take what they need from you they have a deep need to punish you for having the audacity to right about something that they are wrong on. They will be among the worse types you may have to confront as a thief will only put so much effort into something and whats the point of sinking so much force that you destroy the ‘goods’ so to speak? He’s out his effort with nothing to show. On the other hand with a guy who feels wronged the need to punish you for having becomes foremost and if he has to destroy it to do that he will. They will also be the first to turn you in for to authories as they again will feel rightousness of seeing you punished for having what they did not plan for.

OPSEC always.

“Very few Americans own a grocery store. Even fewer grocery stores grown their own products.”

When the grocery stores are empty where do you think you will get food? It doesn’t just fall out of the sky. Unless you want to be in the first die off you should start thinking of scenarios where you will need seeds.

"I am just asking the hard questions than each of us need to answer."

That's not really true either. You, a person who obviously doesn't feed yourself or your family from a home garden, and telling others who do feed their families from a home garden, that it can't practically be done.

It is rather amusing.

I wonder if the Greeks, Romans, Incas, Aztecs, Byzantins, Hittites, or Persians ever thought their civilizations would fall?

The folks who think it can’t happen in some form to modern civilizations must be a lot smarter than I.

Good points. I decided that the “stockpile” in a PA world is only to allow me to get long term solution(s) in place. Long term water, shelter, privacy and such take a great deal of time and energy. If I can get that up and running in six months without having to spend energy feeding the clan every day I am that much further ahead.

Best asset is your noggin. I can supply any practical service needed after the SHTF - for a price.

Good points. I may have to get a .30-06 as well.

If half of what I hear from credible public figures is correct then the US could very likely be in for a world of hurt that we just can't imagine right now. In fact, the situation we're in today would have been unimaginable not that long ago.

I'm thinking that 10's of millions of Americans could be very desperate in the future. I hope I'm wrong.

I do note that sewing supplies and a good sewing machine are not listed.

Make that a good working treadle sewing maching as electric ones won't run without electricty. I have my great-grandma's Singer along with all the attachments. Also have plenty of sewing supplies.

I can’t picture a scenario that would require seeds.

My grandparents had a farm with cattle, fruit trees, a garden, and ran a newspaper during the Depression. They were able to barter foodstuffs with those who didn't have any and bartered newspaper ads for merchandise. They had it much easier than most but it was still a very hard time for them. Having seeds to home garden is a wise idea even today. With grocery prices skyrocketing, our garden is helping with the budget.

In the summer or winter? In any area not in the US Southwest? I think not.

Think not? Try it. There's such things as greenhouses. In many parts of the country, one can manage to grow some foodstuffs throughout most of the year. Mushrooms can be grown in the basement or closet with no concern how cold or hot the outside weather might be. Ever heard of homecanning your garden produce and cold cellars for root vegetables?
