Politico is a rancid collection of Democrats. They never make these “mistakes” about Democrats, only Republicans. They have zero credibility, and nothing they publish should be believed.

I would have been fired immediately from a daily for such an ‘error in the editing process’ had I so thoroughly botched the job.

And that was from a daily paper...so what’s a ‘major’ publication like Politico going to do about it?

...when “she said” was mistakenly added to the story...
How about you shut up Keach...

...and let them defend themselves,
instead of being their water mule.

Except that AFTER the “imaginary quotes” was “she said.” “She said” is not a cartoon bubble. It was a deliberate falsification. This is BS. Politico has no cred at all.

Since When did QUOTATION marks ever mean THOUGHTS?

Apparently Politico doesn’t know the meaning of “IS”.

If memory serves, it was the sleazebags at Pollutico that first circulated the fraudulent piece declaring that Obummer is unbeatable and that the 2012 election may as well be conceded to him right now......and then attributed the article to Dr. Walter E. Williams. They got their worthless butts handed to them on THAT deal, too!

I heard enough FReepers throwing Bachman under the bus over this. They had better get their facts straight before falling for the divisive media campaign. This was just a preview of what’s to come.

Paul Goldman and Mark J. Rozell work for Politico, a site with hallmarks of a primal scream: “Don’t worry about that broad from Alaska. We’ll take care of her! We Love Barack Obama. We will do anything for him,” They said.

In my original post, an innocent mistake appeared to take on sinister dimensions. I used quotation marks around what I imagined to be Paul Goldman and Mark J. Rozell’s thoughts.

The problem came during the preview process, when “They said” was mistakenly added to the post.

Interesting, because I read that and thought, wow, I can’t believe she said that.

Paul Goldman and Mark J. Rozell: “As writers, the real concern is not that Politico made a mistake - that's correctable - but that someone added words to an article after the authors had signed off on the text. That is an especially egregious mistake.”

When two different people write the same opinion piece it's bound to be muddled, especially when one guy is sitting on the other guy's lap as they share the keyboard.

“she said” was mistakenly added to the story -- making it seem

The apology may be the best part. "Making it seem"? How about "explicitly stating".

every news story is scrutinized for inaccuracies and signs of bias

There's a difference between inaccuracies and make up a quote out of thin air. They're trying to explain it away by lying some more. Too late, politico!

Let's play a game and we'll call it..."Likely Suspect".
Who do you think is the likely suspect if Politco did indeed edit the submitted article?
I'm going with this guy...
POLITICO STAFF EDITORS
David Mark is Politico's politics editor. David is the author of Going Dirty: The Art of Negative Campaigning, published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2006.

Pretty likely since it was about politics and it definitely started the dirt flying.

Even without the allegedly inadvertent addition of "she said", there is still a problem with this passage:

Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else.” Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.

The authors are imagining a "primal scream" ...and then agreeing with their own imaginations! - - "she has a point".
It was that same phrase - - in addition to the quote marks - - which no doubt led some junior editor to add the "she said" to the paragraph.

No matter how you cut it, this was one very sloppy publication.
