The American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama, in conjunction with several other civil rights groups, is planning to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the immigration policy Alabama Gov. Robert J. Bentley signed into law Thursday.
..civil liberties activists are up in arms and preparing to mount their legal challenge.
This law is an outrageous throw-back to the pre-Civil Rights era, going beyond the discriminatory and unconstitutional police practices that weve seen in other states, Cecillia Wang, director of the ACLU Immigrants Rights Project.
I am hoping for the day when we have a president that launches the Justice dept/IRS/BATFE/FBI/CIA/et all into a full-scale televised investigation of the ACLU...right after an executive order is signed that forbids them from receiving taxpayer money in any legal proceeding.
Here ya go!
I went to the ACLU History homepage and read what they consider their proudest achievements. Some made me ill but at the same time I realized our Constitution must be for all or it is for none.
What a sad task they have in preserving our basic rights while enraging a substantial part of our citizens. Yet, how would our freedoms be twisted if only some freedoms applied to a few. And who would those citizens be? With our toxic mainstream media setting policies of a liberal agenda I doubt it would be for us conservatives.
As far as Alabama’s latest legislation is concerned, I applaud the politicians that took the brave step knowing they would be vilified by some voters, the ACLU, and the Federal government but they acted anyway. But I ask you, if the Federal Government fails to provides one of its Constitutionally mandated purposes (securing our borders), do States’ Rights (Amendment 10) have the right to step in and do so. Living in a border state, I especially hope so.
Go to www.ACLU.org. It shows pie charts of how they raise money through fundraising, grants and activities. $110, 6xx,xxx was raised and spent in 2010. Or pretty much close to those figures. I don’t know who gives them the grants.
While those in Alabama elsewhere were gawking, years ago CA overwhelmingly passed prop 187 which was to put a stop all tax paid/supported benefits to illegals.
The Federal government in concert with their state government co-conspirators, declared CA free election illegal and burned their ballots.
The direct results of that massive government control and intrusion can now been seen coast to coast.
It was the last President, supported by Alabama, that called Americans who with a belly full of lawless, violent borders, "Vigilantes".
For the record, I support Alabama's recent endeavors to stop this country killing illegal invasion.

So, basically you are saying that the voting public can do nothing because the Feds are so powerful that they can usurp States’ Rights and ignore their constitutional purpose. We should throw up our hands in despair and just sit around and growl? As long as we have a vote, we have a voice and I would like to see the Secure Borders issue a 2012 election issue. Unfortunately, in my state, the Anglos are now the minority. Congratulations to all the politicians who needed an uninformed electorate to carry them into office. And it’s so easy to abandon the promises they made, once elected. It’s a great way of running a country, no?
No, not what I said, those are your words.
But the fact is, this is what is happening, here and elsewhere. Complete with bribes, closed door insider meetings, and federal strong arm tactics etc.
Thought you might be interested.
Bttt
Did ya notice this went from news where it should be, to personal and bloggers?
Seems someone down south complained!
lol...
We need to fight the ACLU.
You’re right. Those weren’t your words, but that was the hopeless feeling I got from your post. If what you said about the Feds burning the ballots of legal US citizens, and recalling their votes, then freedom loving Americans have experienced a serious loss of freedom already. Perhaps the US Supreme Court needs more conservative members. We need a candidate for President that can stop the slide.
Yes we do. In fact, we need all new leadership, leadership that puts America and the American people first, all the time, every time. Americans are totally divided, with nearly half the people being too stupid or brainwashed by government, or their schooling to understand the real risks facing us at every turn. Government and government expansion is the problem and it's been infiltrated by very controlling, self serving individuals and others who have been bought off or have conflicting agendas other than what is beneficial to America and our freedom.
Sweeping change of course would be very tempting, but we must remember the government is not really run by the elected career politicians at the top, but run by bureaucrats that maintain their jobs across all administrations. One of my friends says that the GOVT is run by “C” students and the closest thing to immortality is a job with the Federal Govt. One reason that we can’t fire everyone working for the GOVT is just the sheer size of the Federal workforce. The US GOVT is one of the largest employers (worldwide totals) in the US. I doubt that the US economy could absorb such an influx of unemployed personnel. Alas. I think the real cause for many ills of the Fed Govt is that it has long-since forgotten the intentions of the Founding Fathers in the Articles of the Constitution and its Amendments. In particular, provide for the common defense and securing our borders. Our situtation is looking more like the grievances the Founding Fathers enumerated against King George III in the Declaration of Independence.
There ya have it.
A final thought on this.
“With about 2.0 million civilian employees, the Federal Government, excluding the Postal Service, is the Nation’s largest employer.
About 85 percent of Federal employees work outside the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
A substantial number of job openings will arise as many Federal workers are expected to retire over the next decade; competition is high during times of economic uncertainty, however, when workers seek the stability of Federal employment.” This is a direct copy from the US Bureau of Labor & Statistics.
I wonder how many people on the US payroll if the Armed Services and the Postal Service were included. ExxonMobil employs 83,600 people worldwide.
I really don’t care where they all work. The government due to never ending spending and expansion, became more intrusive and controlling. As a result of becoming so large, so encompassing, it became even more corrupt and more controlling.
Well, so much for thoughtful and compassionate government reform. It’s beginning to smell a little like the Anarchists Guide to Government Reform. Just throw the baby out with the bath water? Offer nothing to fill the void? Just keep the pot stirred? We all go down in the flames of Chaos? I had hoped for more from Free Republic.
