The House has officially failed to pass legislation raising the Federal Debt limit to $16.7 trillion. The vote was not even close, with 288 Nays to 74 Yeas. Only 1 Republican voted to increase the debt limit, with 228 voting against the increase. Don't worry Turbo Tim, The Bernank can just turn on the printers if you run low on federal employee pension funds. Now that Republicans have made their symbolic vote against the increase, we'll see how long it takes them to cave and agree on $30-$50 million in budget deductions and pass the debt increase.
Looks like the GOP has finally found something they can grow a spin about. It’s about time.
Who was the one Republican who voted for it.
I know you meant 'SPINE', but 'SPIN' is funnier.
No doubt there is a bus out there just dying for Timmy to be tossed under.
Govt needs to sell a few trillion of assets. Start with Amtrack, TVA, oil drilling leases in Alaska and offsore, and TSA airport security management. Dismantle FEMA and BAFT. Add land sales as needed to reach $5 trillion, then see how much else needs to be sold. Cut Washington bureaucrats across the board by 50%. Privatize NASA. Add back gummit jobs if any excruciating problems develop after cuts.
The final vote was 318-97 with ALL Republicans voting against, along with 82 Democrats.
Isn’t this what the Dems wanted anyhow, a up or down vote? =.=
Wow!!! Stunning!!!
House Republicans Arrest Democrats' Attempt to Raise Debt Ceiling.
>Who was the one Republican who voted for it.
I’m curious too so I can curse his/her name..
Yeas Nays PRES NV Republican 236 3 Democratic 97 82 7 6 Independent TOTALS 97 318 7 9
Wow. I guess the House members grew a set of Palins.
Two things are for sure. The Government won’t repudiate the debt, yet, and Republicans will eventually pass a bill with too much spending for the Government to avoid default.
REPUBLICANS NOT VOTING
Duncan (SC)
Lucas
Myrick
Where were these three?
The number of Democrats voting against is meaningless. Once the outcome was ordained, Pelosi released any Dem in a swing district to vote with the GOP. If the vote were close, you can bet all those Dems would toe the Pelosi line.
So the Dems who voted against do not deserve any kudos whatsoever.
Looks like over 100 democrats didn’t vote at all.
A third thing is for sure....the stock market will drop by more than 200 points tomorrow. I’d expect a negative view over this for at least the next week or so.
Why? I see this as a step in the right direction... even though I'm sure the RINO's will cave in a few weeks when no one's paying attention.
