The insiders are largely agreed: Sarah Palin isnt really running for president. She is more interested in making money and getting publicity. So her movie, bus tour, and poll numbers mean nothing. Zero. Nada.
The best example of this is probably found in Byron Yorks column today:
The bottom line is Sarah Palin is not going to run for president, says a Republican adviser close to front-runner Mitt Romney. Shes making money, shes moved on, shes kind of an entertainer rather than a politician. She still has some sway with the grass roots, but she is not going to run.
I dont think shes going to run, says a Republican close to Tim Pawlenty. She has faded a lot in the last few months. I look at what shes doing now and say that shes found a way to get back in the story.
But theyre not alone. A lot of political insiders and campaign experts I talk to are convinced Palin is just in this for the attention that she wont run because running and losing would destroy her brand. They point to the fact that her team isnt engaged in the organizational logistics a traditional presidential campaign must have in place to win in, say, Iowa, as evidence she isnt running.
But Palin is anything but a conventional politician. The fact that shes not building a traditional campaign organization implies nothing. Should she run, Palin will be unconventional like a guerrilla insurgent fighting against the Redcoats. The experts can point to the number of soldiers against her, the training and weapons they have at their disposal, their nice uniforms, etc. but the problem is they all march in a line. They are fighting an old-style fight. Palin believes the world has changed

So, who is the best we have to offer?
If it’s like most fundraising, big donors are the key, but I really don’t know.
But she’s sure as heck not behind Christie or Ryan or Perry on that front. And does anyone think there’s anyone else in the race other than Mitt who might be better off than her in that category? That’s what’s so infuriating about all this ‘expert’ tsk-tsking.
Who do you think is the best we have to offer?
She may think the “old rules” no longer matter, but one “old rule” absolutely will be in play: you can figure that Palin will have pollsters at every stop focusing heavily on her negatives, and at the end of the tour, if her negatives are still over 40% with the Independents, you can bet she won’t run.
Sarah needs no defense and we have to stop responding to every one that just can’t weight average her positives.
I know the joy the very mention of her name brings to my heart and the Solace to my mind it garners.
We need to share that...not in responding but rather in projecting...that which Sarah means.
Enough is Enough....Sarah just does not deserve this. Let’s turn the matrix around. Let’s go positive!
If she does and gets the nomination don’t expect the party boys or RINO’s to support her, not happening, loyalty with them is a one way street.
If she wins the presidency it will be in spite of the republican party-RINO’s which are interchangeable in their duplicitous and corrupt nature. Oh, they will make the obligatory references of support, reference Christine O’Donnell and they will promptly support and vote for obama.
If she wins the presidency she will take just as many or more arrows from her own party than the democrats if she doesn’t fire and root out every last vestige of the republican liberal bureaucracy in the government.
Of Americans who have not declared (of which Mrs. Palin is one) there are plenty more capable / ready than her. I would like to see a sitting Governor, with balls step up. Maybe Cristie, though don't completley agree with his gun ideas. Then again, he is in NJ and some of that my be local. I like Jeb, but not on immigration. I like Paul Ryan, but wonder if this is to soon. Though, I believe he is more prepared and ready to lead than Palin. Rubio?, perhaps. But again, young and not enough executive type experience.
I think Palin on the whole has served herself poorly these past 3 years. From leaving her Governorship as she did, for right or wrong reasons. To how her family has looked, reality TV programing and the such. It has just come off poorly, self-absorbed and non-serious. Much like the current man in office only with much better politics.
Sarah Palin is NOT going to run for president. She’s just in it for the fame and money.
No, I don’t really believe that. I just want to help you have a great weekend!
:)
Palin is not ready, but Christie is—after one year as governor?
Matt gets it.
Most of those articles dismiss her as no longer newsworthy, only a celebrity digging for money, or stupid. The same search on front runner "Romney" finds far fewer results. Somehow, with all the press hatred of her, she's still in control of her message and in the lead for the GOP. That power to resist the ruling class socialist elites is what I want in an American president (which this country desperately needs after 2 1/2 years of a drug-addled former junior US Senator pretending to be president).
LOL! Thanks!
I agree. She’s *not* stupid despite what the left says, but I do fear she is unelectable. This is key - if her negatives don’t improve beyond what you say, I agree - she’ll do what’s best for her country, and decide not to run, but endorse someone (Cain or *maybe* Bachmann) who she feels has a shot and represents her values.
With regard to Palin’s electability, I’ve used the Christine O’Donnell example...so many people here insisted that she’d either win outright or only lose by a few points despite polls showing a near 20 pts loss...and sure enough, the polls were right, she lost by 17 pts.
We have to try to “think like an independent” when we look at whether or not a candidate can win.
It's ridiculous for people to try to make this a conservative/RINO thing. There are plenty of conservatives who do not have her extraordinarily high negatives among indies and women, most notably Marco Rubio or Rand Paul. But the O'Donnell/Angle races did not help Palin, because I think it reinforced in the minds of many people that Palin is of that same cut of cloth.
The question people around here need to start asking is not whether she can run an "unorthodox" or "different" campaign, but exactly how such a campaign will persuade people who saw the 60 minutes interview or Katie Couric interview that she is indeed capable. Even John Ziegler's pro-Palin movie had a hard time making her look good in those interviews. That is what she will have to overcome.
What makes you think Palin isn’t extraordinarily capable and ready? That a congressman or a first-term senator with no executive experience or a governor with half her time in a governorship or someone named Bush would be a better choice?
I wish she and Bristol hadn’t gone the reality TV route as well, but she had an exceptional record in office, held twice the favorability among her constituents that Christie has in this point of his governorship, and has demonstrated a fight and charisma that none of the others have.
Sarah draws crowds unlike any candidate that we have had since Reagan.
Beating an incumbent isn't easy.
We need an exciting candidate that can draw a strong contrast with the Commie in Chief.
It would be hilarious to watch the campaign. Giant crowds of Conservative, America loving people cheering her on.
We need to do what ever it takes to replace O however, so we need to support vigorously who ever makes it to the top of the ticket.
