Shocker: Mittens is Throwing His Hat in the Ring
Conservatives 4 Palin ^ | 05/26/2011 | Doug Brady

Posted on 05/27/2011 12:00:06 AM PDT by Rational Thought

Gee, I never saw this coming…but I’ll try to contain my excitement:

A Romney spokesperson tells (sic) former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will formally announce his candidacy for president Thursday, June 2, in New Hampshire. CNN calls this ”breaking” news. Really, CNN? Is there anyone on the planet who doesn’t know that the Mittster is running for president, and has been since about January 2003? Interesting timing on the announcement from Team Mitt, though. Why now? Somehow I doubt today’s date was on his latest Power Point diagram. Is there, um, anything that’s happened in the past couple days that may have resulted in a sense of urgency to make such an earth-shattering revelation at this time? Anything at all?

(h/t Whitney)

Update: Reader “nederlandbill” brings up an interesting question in the comments:

Hmmmm–will the Gov be in NH at the same time? And if she is, will there be anyone to witness his announcement?

Mitt, you MFR.

I will see to it you are ZOT’d from this race myself.

I cannot stand you.

You are an opportunist with no message. We heard you loud and clear the last time around and nary a word since.

In fact, you were absent these last two years and gave no voice to your opinion or opposition to this administration and the current Democrat Senate.

GFYS and go away.

After bombing out disastrously in his strained explanation of Romneycare, he feels confident he will win? This loser is more delusional and tone def that Obummer. It will be nice to see him blow all his cash again only to flame out again.

Well, the Establishment is promoting him along with Pawlenty.

This same Establishment continue to act as if they don't need our support. Most times when they nominate one of their own, they try the tired threat of “if you don't vote for the Republican candidate, the Democrat will win”. Yet, they still end up with a loser. But, the last time we nominated one of our own (1980), we had a huge winner.

I'll put it like this. If the Establishment once again treats Conservatives like they don't matter and is successful in nominating one of their own, I would anticipate a major Third Party (Tea Party backed) candidate will emerge. Many Republicans scoff at the idea of a Third Party candidate, claiming it would give the election to Team Obama. While that might be true, what's definitely true is another John McCain type will guarantee an Obama reelection.

I'd take my chances with a possible winner versus a definite loser.

Which is why Dem saboteurs will be voting in droves for Mittens in the open GOP primaries.

If conservatives can’t get organized enough to close the primaries and get behind a solid conservative candidate in the GOP, what good will a third party serve?

You bring up a great point, the “open primary”, one of he tools used to gain nominations for the mushy middle, the favorite type of Establishment candidate.

If we do end up with another RINO, I would rather fight for a Conservative Third Party candidate, who’d be an underdog, instead of pretending a RINO is a Conservative, and has a chance of winning.

Understand, this election season has a long way to go. I’m just laying out a “what if” scenario.

I just don’t understand how conservatives could fail to close the primaries. We have had plenty of time to do so, but nothing has come of it. All this time, money, and energy in promoting any of the more conservative candidates is but an exercise in futility until they closed.

The Establishment which runs the Party doesn’t want a closed primary. I honestly believe they dislike Conservatives. Oh they want our votes, but they don’t want Conservatives in charge.

In 1936 the GOP passed on Senator Vandenburg and instead nominated the moderate Alf Landon. As a Progressive, Landon had supported many aspects of FDR’s New Deal. When faced with the choice between one who generally supported the New Deal and the actual author of the New Deal, the voters ended up handing the GOP it’s worst beating ever.

A review of Romneycare and Obamacare demonstrates one thing: Mit Romney is Alf Landon.

I agree about the Republican establishment. I will even go as far to say that they rather see Obama win reelection than a conservative win the presidency.

That still doesn't explain why conservatives have left them in charge especially after what happened three years ago. I mean we have the numbers to remove them from power but have failed to do so.

Here's a question I ask of all proponents of a third party: Is there any party rule that the GOP establishment could use against grass roots conservatives to prevent us from taking over the party at the top levels?

Romney - Obama's, Carville's, Clinton's and Kerry's choice.

Has there EVER been a time Romney did NOT help Obama and the DNC?

Romney for Obama in 2008

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Mitt Romney Sends Leftover Pizza to Obama Chicago HQ
After spending the day in Chicago fundraising, Mitt Romney
sat down with small business owners at Gino's East,
a pizza joint famous for their deep-dish pizza.
In fact, Romney himself tweeted a photo of a
delivery boy heading out with the loot, writing,
"Great deep dish at @ginoseast.

or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged

Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn't make any sense at all.""

Due to the various election laws created by the establishment elite ruling class, no third party candidate can get on enough ballots to win.
