For many years I’ve stated that our country’s decline has been first in the spiritual realm and thus the result of the spiritual decline in the church, God’s people.
The church and the world look the same, and the church has fully embraced the world’s thinking, ways, beliefs and its style of leaders. The vast majority of Christians are far more concerned with the material world than the spiritual, eternal one.
The church is to be “the salt” that prevents decay, but “when the salt has lost its savor”, the decay becomes pandemic.
The only hope as our Lord tarries is indeed II Chron. 7:14.
But here too, the church misses the first and most important part: “If my people.....WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES...” Prayer without confession, repentance, and humbling of ourselves will be ineffective, for the lack of these indicates that our hearts are still not right before God.
I truly believe if we who are His will humble ourselves - including confession of our worldliness, materialism, carnality, and then fall on our faces and pray fervently, God will hear. He promises to.
But we cannot leave out the first element.
And the second it true fervent prayer.
I was approached by an evangelical before the ‘08 election who asked if I was actively working to prevent Obama’s election because he was indeed a socialist. He was totally committed to campaigning for Obama’s defeat.
I asked him if he was spending as much time on his knees praying as he was working outwardly - for if he wasn’t, his outward efforts would be in vain.
The same is true for this next election.
If we, the church, do not humble ourselves, confessing our sin and repenting, then praying fervently - Obama will indeed have another 4 years to destroy our nation.
And I don’t think we can survive as a nation another 4 years of his 360 degree assault on freedom.
I concur with you on your sentiments, as far as the U.S. surviving any downward swing spiritually, culturally, or materially. I don't think it's going to happen, I think the U.S. will become more like the Europe. Eventually Christians with money or common sense will decide to John Galt on this nation, I mean we really aren't a Christian nation anymore are we. United States became a great Christian Nation at it's beginning because a few individuals didn't like their present government and John Galted to the Barron unknown lands of America. Personally I could see China becoming the great land that many Christians might John Galt too.
