Sen. Reid Flip-Flops on Call for Debt Ceiling Vote
CNSNews ^ | 5/25/11 | Eric Scheiner

(CNSNews.com) - As recently as last month, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was pushing for a clean debt ceiling measure. “You don’t have to have a lot of things attached to raising the debt ceiling. You can do that separately,” he told reporters at an April 14th press conference.

Now a House GOP plan to hold a vote on a clean extension of the debt ceiling is coming under fire by Reid. It will send "a terrible message to the international community," Reid said Tuesday.

The superior mind of liberals are above such petty things as consistency.

How does a clean extension of the Debt Ceiling provide the GOP with ANY leverage in forcing spending cuts?

Because the vote will fail, with many Democrats joining all Republicans in opposing it, and that will increase the GOP’s leverage in pushing for a bill that raises the debt ceiling by the same dollar amount that spending is cut.

Because the WH will be exposed when everyone watches the vote fail.

That should increase leverage.

Are we that certain about our vote count? We have some pretty lousy stuff out there because we thought we had the votes to stop them but the Dems snookered us with the Maine Sisters, Voinofabitch, etc.

Somehow, I’m not the least bit surprised about this garbage mouth, since it isn’t an election year. Maybe NV will be lucky next time and vote the bestid out.

Likely Reid has the usual cast of RINO scoundrels in his hip pocket on this one, or he wouldn`t be calling for a “clean” debt ceiling vote.

Inapposite examples: we didn’t push for a vote on Obamacare (we filibustered it, remember?), and McCain-Feingold was forced through with the GOP leadership unable to stop it. In this case, Reid called for a “clean” vote on raising the debt ceiling despite several Dem Senators already saying they wouldn’t vote for it and others afraid of having to commit, and the GOP called his bluff. Now Reid is backing off because when he loses the clean vote it will become a question of how much more spending will be cut in return for raising the debt ceiling.

Well, I know I am cynical, but it happens so often where a bill is predicted to fail because enough Dems will join the ‘Pubbs, and when push comes to shove, it passes... often with RINO help. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

He’s consistent. He wants a clean vote that will pass.

If the House takes a clean vote now, it’ll fail. Reid doesn’t want that.

What I hate most about John Kerry is that he was the beginning of “flip flop” and now we overuse it. I hate that word for some reason. It just sounds annoying.

There's no way a "clean bill" would pass the House. It would be toxic in 2012.

It's not complicated like ObamaCare or other things. The People grasp what it means, polls show even a majority of Democrats are opposed to it.

That's exactly why the GOP should bring the clean bill to the floor for a vote.

That’s OK...he no doubt has a Free Pass to the Secret Club. Otherwise, he would be really crying, the flannel-mouthed evil SOB.

But you didn’t hear it from me. His mother is most likely shedding multitudes of Eternal Tears, wondering what kind of trick this was to send him to HER!
