Forgive me, Freepers, for I have sinned. My sins are many:
1. I linked to my own website, which is a sign of the arrogant belief that people might want to read what I write. Of course, if I didn't think that, I wouldn't write in the first place, so it's hard to see much difference.
2. I "stole bandwidth," though it's hard to see how posting a short exerpt with a link was worse than posting a long article--or how repeated insulting comments don't also "steal bandwidth."
3. I wanted people to "pay" me to be "showered with my wisdom," though my website has no advertising and costs me $299 a year to run, plus untold hours of time.
4. I used too many bullet points--or is it too few semicolons, I forget?
5. I claimed to have a graduate degree, though this couldn't be true, since I expressed myself plainly, in short paragraphs, and never used a $5 word when a two-bit word would do as well.
6. I claimed to have scars from a line-of-duty injury in the Army Reserve, though this couldn't be true either, since "people like me" usually avoid service.
7. Unlike my critics, I use my own name instead of a screen name, because I'm willing to stand up and be counted for what I say, and believe.
8. I assumed falsely that I was among friends, so any differences could be resolved amicably. Instead, I got more anger and vitriol than I ever got from liberals in the years I posted on NewsMax and on my own website. Yes, they occasionally called me "Nazi," but even the most fanatical never threatened violence or called me mentally ill--both of which are ways communists used to silence those who disagreed.
9. I assumed falsely that most conservatives are interested in saving our nation from leftists undermining it from within, and extremist Muslims attacking it from without. But instead, some are too busy squabbling among themselves about who doesn't really "fit in" with their small group--a sure recipe for defeat.
For all these sins, forgive me. My pennance will be to forgo blogging for a month. Perhaps that will be enough time for the anger to subside. Or not.
Boggers, bloggers, same thing.
Fact is it would be hard to avoid it, a link to the source is a required field when posting an article.
This is not enough for some of them though.
Seriously tho: Just post your full content here. Then we won't bitch at you or try to kill you.
Oh, and the only unforgivable sin is to have no sense of humor as I am slowly burning your skin off with an acetalyne torch.
And eating the children.
Never forget about eating the children.
It’s important.
Nom nom nom
I like the song. :-)
Bloggers can provide links to their stuff. When you create a thread, the link to the source will be right at the top of the page under the title. People can go to the link if they want.
What we just don't like is the needless excerpting of one's own personal blog. If the bloggers posts in full, people can still see the link to his blog at the top of the page and can go there if they find the blogger's stuff interesting. But the blog pimp practice of forcing people to go to the poster's blog to read the rest of the article (and to garner lots of hits and bucks for the pimp) is scummy. We were dealing with one blog pimp the other day who would post lame jokes and then excerpt them right before the punchlines. Just totally scummy.
This is what I can't agree with: that anyone is "forced" to go to the blog or any other linked site.
I agree with you on the example you give, but it doesn't change my point. If people want to know the punchline, they can click, otherwise, they don't. That said, that example sounds awfully close to spam to me. But can't that just be gotten rid of the usual mod-way? This OP and another one who posted recently were posting perfectly legitimate op-eds that, had they been posted in the exact same way by someone not the author, would have been perfectly acceptable on FR.
But not boogers . . .
(Yikes.)
:)
This was addressed in post# 244.
Were the words too big?
Lame posters who post garbage can either be zotted or left to die a natural death.
But that is not what this thread, and some others, are about. These are people who write legitimate pieces, post within normal guidelines, and are excoriated for it for no sensible reason.
If someone is teasing, why do people click on it? Can’t they figure this out? And can’t the mods figure it out? They seem like they’ve able been pretty on top of things to me.
Larry, I understand and share the concern. It’s the execution — the dragnet this has become across the board — that I question.
One of the main reasons blog pimps are zotted is that they keep complaining and arguing about it over and over and over without end.
Jim made a special point about that.
What part of Jim Rob's words on blog pimping do you not understand?
Jim Rob on blog pimps:
"I have no complaint if a good conservative blogger posts his own material to FR, not as an excerpt to drive hits and discussion back to his blog, but rather to impart useful information to OUR readers and to promote and join in on the discussion and conservative activism HERE on FR
If a blogger cant or refuses do that, and if he constantly complains or fights with our participants over it, then Id just as soon he doesnt post here. Its not my job to make his content or his presentation or cooperation acceptable to our readers. Thats his job. And if he cannot do it or refuses to do it and continues posting brief excerpts only and obviously attempting to draw away our participants while loudly complaining about it, then I have no sympathy for his complaints and the more apt I am to ban his account and blog.
Furthermore, Im not big on rules. You wont see me posting rules for bloggers. The rules for bloggers on FR are the same as the rules for everyone else. If you are a good conservative activist and are willing to work with US on OUR goals and causes and not against US, then youre welcome to post to FR. But unless we say otherwise your blog material should be posted to our bloggers forum and it would be best if you do not excerpt your own material and if you would actually join in on the discussion here on FR. Were not really that interested in driving OUR traffic to YOUR blog. But if our readers see that you post useful information then they might start reading your site and thats fine by me."

It’s possible to make one’s points without insult.
Please tell me how ANY link here “drives traffic from FR.”
ALL threads must have a link. Therefore, on EVERY thread, readers may choose to click on the link and review the entire article or the site.
No one is FORCED to click on a link and leave FR (through the FR-created “redirecter” function) for even one second.
So how does the fact that someone may want to visit a blog, of their own free will, exercising their own intellectual power of decision-making, differ from the fact that someone may want to visit Fox News, or whatever, by clicking on the link of their own free will, exercising their own intellectual power of decision-making?
There is no difference, so it would be more honest if that argument were dropped.
Your sole argument is that, in your view, the posts are automatically garbage because “no one else will post them.” That may be true, but why is it intolerable to leave it up to your fellow freepers whether they think the post is garbage or not?
Personally, except for the usual things the mods zot and remove, which I fully support, I’d like to be left alone to make up my own mind what posts are garbage and which aren’t.
If posts are abusive or spam, they should be zotted. That is all.
Otherwise, let’s let the free market of ideas determine what threads live and die here.
And, btw, you’ve identified the blogger’s solution to all this: simply file a copyright complaint with FR and require excerpts. Why not? What’s wrong with protecting one’s ownership in one’s hard work? Why would you think people are “a-holes” for not wanting to give their work away free? (Although the blogger’s work is FREE to readers here; someone else is paying whatever pennies someone might earn on a personal blog.)
Do you give your work away for free? Are you an ass?
Eaker, I have been nothing but civil to you and all my fellow freepers.
If you can’t have a discussion with me without adding juvenile insults, please don’t post to me again.
You keep mentioning the moderators.
The issue of blog pimping is not necessarily in all cases specifically forbidden.
It’s more a community values issue. The moderators have better things to do.
They have abuse reports and accountability issues to deal with.
This issue of blogpimping is peripheral to all that. Secondary.
You state that if the blogpimping issue were so vital, then
the moderators would deal with it. Why don’t they? Good question.
Allow me another analogy.
Burning the flag is legal.
It’s wrong and offensive, but legal.
The cops can’t or are prevented from stopping it.
A few concerned Patriots, however, might accidentally bump into
the flag burner and clumsily step on him when he falls down.
The cops in many cases may just choose to overlook this clumsiness.
Because the cops have legal restrictions and better things to do.
There is no dragnet. Each post is checked against the excerpt list. The quality of the post is evaluated. Someone, usually a bolder Pimpbuster, clicks on the link to find out the worth of the balance of the article and whether there is malware on the blog site, the nature of the malware, and the number of attacks triggered by clicking the link.
This information is reported back to the thread.
There is a lot more to this than our marauding through Free Republic swinging our swords and lopping off one and all bloggers.
We have valid points, and we are complying with Jim Robinson’s wishes with regard to bloggers. We attempt to instruct them politely when they are being what is essentially rude to our members. If they comply, everybody calmly walks away happy.
If they want to spend pages and pages on the thread arguing fine points and asking for explanations of the same issues over and over, our troll-detecting dogs start barking and getting restless, and the ZOT lightning starts charging. That’s all per Jim Robinson’s instructions.
A word to the wise...
I understand JimRob’s words perfectly and have addressed them repeatedly.
If you’re interested in my views on them, check my posting history.
Thanks!
Can you understand this?
It seems SO simple and it has been post so many times.
Are you an ass?
Only to idiots.
I can’t say that I blame you. It’s often hard to ignore the children. Good Luck.
