I guess better late than never, for privacy advocates. This stuff has been out there for decades, but we’re all too busy with ATM fees and fighting an increase in gas taxes to really care.

I’ve made it a point to make sure my kids understand electrical wiring and enough about how things work to get these data links from providing Uncle Sam (or really, Welfare Queens working for Uncle Sam) with enough information to figure out how to monitor and control my life.

In other words, if I want my Air Conditioner, it WILL go on, when I want it to...even if I have to run a circuit from upstream of the “Smart Meter” to get it power (which, of course, would be a last resort).

One other thing not mentioned but I believe may be one of the ultimate applications of “smart grid” has to do with the desire on the part of the “Progressives” for an ever larger part of generating capacity coming from renewables. Owing to their unpredictability, as more wind and solar is added to the grid overall system reliability will suffer. With a connection to every electrical device in homes, businesses and industry, the power company will be able to constantly match demand to resources which is just the opposite of how it works today. So in the name of saving the planet you will suddenly find your production line shut down in the middle of an important run or your accounting office will go dark in the middle of the day. But it’s the right thing to do dontcha know.

For the moment, you don’t have to play the game.
Don’t respond to energy company campaigns to install monitors.

This is hyperbolic fretting. Even if government attempts to implement an Intrusive Grid, there will be plenty of ways for people to decline to participate, or to render the information worthless. And those who are planning the Intrusive Grid don’t think that anyone would dare to hack their creation. We will see!

The foundational justification of the Intrusive Grid is that humans are causing harmful climate change. That “fact” has come apart at the seams and much of what passes for “science” is not any more scientific than eugenics or phrenology. Soon we will see that the climate is far more driven by solar activity than by CO2 levels.

Indeed, the silent witness of the climate data from Vostok station will eventually scream out. This data graphically shows that for every temperature there are TWO levels and trends of CO2 change, thus proving that CO2 levels in the atmosphere DON’T affect the climate, at least below levels that are far higher than they already are.

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vostok_420ky_4curves_insolation.jpg

We may want an Intrusive Grid for economic purposes, but the main economic driver is the high costs that are solely the result of government policies. What can be done, can be undone. But recall that allowing government to tax incomes destroyed financial privacy because it forced everyone to open their finances to audit. Allowing government to monitor our energy usage will impact personal privacy in other ways. We would be best to stop the Intrusive Grid before it gets entrenched in our lives.
