That is a very interesting point.
On an aside, I wish the author didn't feel the need to play the stupid pronoun games. She's a she, and cutting off her breasts and taking male hormones isn't going to change that. Reminds of the idiotic story last year(?) in the news about the pregnant "man". Uh, no, she was a woman who wanted to look like a man, but the very fact of her pregnancy eliminated any doubt as to her being a woman, i.e. not a man.
The author reveals deep ionsensitivity by his use of female pronouns. Good people, sensitive people use gender neutral pronouns like "zie" and "zer" , or "zes" that can be applied to male , female, ambiguous, androgynous, or unknown.
I am not making this up. There's a few folks on some of the LJ sites I frequent who make a point of using the "gender neutral" pronouns on reposted articles like this one, and you can just smell the self satisfied smugness of those users over the computer screen.
1. It *was* a long time ago.
If you are over 60 it does not seem that long ago. If you are 40 years old, the Sonny and Cher show was playing when you were a mere babe.

I used the stupid pronouns because it demonstrates the confusion of sex and gender reassingnments. Oh, lets be sensitive to abominations? Use zis and zie to further confuse people? In the article I mentioned that I feel sorry for such people, but lets no promote the insanity.
That show was on in 1976,wasn’t it?
I maintain this was 'A Long Time Ago', especially since the movie that opened with 'A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far, Far Away' opened in 1977 and that's considered 'A Long Time Ago' these days.
On that note, never mind Cher's age... Have you seen Carrie Fisher lately? At some point, we have to acknowledge that 1977 was a long time ago, or at least long enough for a 21 year old space princess to turn into a 55 year old Yenta.
Since I was born in 1976,it seems like it’s been a LONG time ago!
If a lanky 30-year old man, a.k.a. myself, feels happy about life, something is so seriously wrong with the whole picture. Somehow, true happiness is lost, and it’s dragging people way down.
