I have long said that the lawyers would eventually shut down the internet in the United States, based on copywrite laws.

I haven’t seen ever in my life so much effort being taken to protect one small group of people i.e the commies in Hollywood and their sympathizers. It is funny to see lefty limousine liberals screaming for protection when somebody dips the hand in THEIR capital(The people doing this are actually their own ideological cohorts, because most of these pirate seeders are far left wackos)

Looks like going after ‘rogue’ downloaders and making an example out of them didn’t work. So now they have sunk to this.

These pricks are going to suffocate the internet. Pretty soon it is going to become impossible to host or publish a website without breaking some law if these fascists are allowed to do whatever they want without any opposition.

For me, its not so much about stealing movies and songs. If they get the ability to do this, how far can they be before they sieze FR and other blogs for inciting trouble? Either the web is free or it's not. If they can regulate this they can regulate politics. FR has been characterized as a "far right" site preaching "hate". If we are put in with the KKK or Nazi's, how long before we are siezed along with the Tea Party and Sarah Palin brought up on treason charges?

As far as I'm concerned, in a free country, it's the movie and music industry's problem to protect content. This just represents the first steps towards a Chinese model of "freedom".

It will get worse. The MSM is bleeding out to the Internet, and they will not go quietly.

And no state our size can truly stand free speech. The State does not like to be mocked.

these ‘laws’ only effect Americans.

IP is on the internet. people all over the globe copy and infringe daily. patents or copyrights are a joke.

these ‘laws’ effect only 5% of the population on the planet. worthless.

but hey, i’m sure plenty of union ‘workers’ will make plenty of money ‘enforcing’ it

And it is imperative that Congress gets this bill to the POTUS’ desk well before the next election so that lies about our dear leader can be kept under control. /administration spokesflunky

Now come on............ Future crime?

What we need around here are some minority report precog balls with various names photoshopped onto them for things like this.

A ball that says free republic on it, one that says rush limbaugh on it, you get the idea.

:-)

With the advent of the tea party movement, the politburo needs to act quick to clamp down before all is lost.

I have long maintained that at the end of the day I will have to support the copyright holders, but because there is no other industry beside entertainment so criminally liable for the destruction of morals and ethics in this country, I will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into it.

Hoist that Jolly Roger!

Could also be in response to the Playstation Network hack, but I’m not citing that as the sole reason this is being introduced. We all know they seek total control over everything, and will use any excuse to justify their encroachment.

I’m starting to wonder if we need to create a formal process by which we can HANG traitorous congressmen that vote for theses atrocious acts.

It would certainly be nice to be able to shoot federal agents that dare try to enforce them.

Frank Kratovil of Maryland was hanged in Effie in 2009 for his abominable acts on health care this was before he was hanged politically in 2010 for the same abominable act.

Yet his Abomination still stands. If you ask me he got off easy, the good people of Maryland had every right to demand that traitor stand trial for treason against the people of the State in attempting to rob them of their rights to health management self-determination.

Democracy does not work to protect our rights, and nether do the Federal Government’s own hand picked employees in black robes. Instead Democracy sets us at war with each others rights in the Marxist tradition of trying to steal and enslave each other to the state for the benefit of our own preserved “class” segment of the population.

The point is while this bill does not rise to the level of the abomination that was Obamacare it does bring up the question again as to how we the people are suppose to defend our rights.

I don’t begrudge people who claim they have a right to their intellectual property, but I do begrudge them having an exclusive right for life +70 years.

I also abhor congress for taking such extraordinary measures to attempt to secure them such an absurdly prolonged “right” to a monopoly over what is essentially speech. That there is the core of the issue. Unlike a 20 year patten over the process for making something or an actual item a “copyright” has been applied to actual speech, not for 20 years as in patients years for an entire life time + 70 years!

What possible incentive drives the progress of science among them creators when you grant them a life time monopoly? Why should they not create once then abandon their creative enterprise not only for themselves but most likely their children as well. (One wonders why such people would even want to cripple their children in such a way as to remove the need to innovate for themselves).

This won’t do squat, these sites will simply rehost to somewhere else like Panama (whose laws were set up precisely so it would be attractive as a place for web servers). Also good luck with the US trying to block sites or track users (just google TOR).

What this will do is shut down legitimate websites like FR and most bloggers that don’t have the financial resources to move off shore. Which is what I believe this bill is targeted at anyway, that is to shut down other voices besides the MSM and the official government version of things.
