Yes, scan to PDF when it's opened in Illustrator. I've duplicated this myself. The layers theory has been quite thoroughly debunked.

Really? Can you point to a couple of pdf which purport to represent the scanned image of a single document, that have been on the internet since before last week that exhibit similar properties.

What are you using? I just tried with my hp officejet 6500. It converted as a lot of the Obama doc to text, but didn’t make layers, It just turned the characters, even text ones like the 8-8-61 into searchable characters. It didn’t do anything with Elizabeth Nordyke’s other than one big picture. It saved them off as pdfs. Maybe, I will load them later.

I love my 6500. I scanned one of my resume’s and it had a 100% character recognition on it. :-)

No, it's not that easy, it will take a fair amount of my time. You do the search for pdf of scanned image of single document on the internet before last week. Give me the links and I'll open them and give you the results.

I should make clear my position on this. Bottom line: the layers do not prove human forgery by themselves; the layers are most likely generated and named/grouped in illustrator. This same layering, grouping and naming standard occurs with scanned pdfs that have not been layered by humans.

I believe the Obama document contains scan/photocopy/image elements. I'm unclear how these were combined on the security background; I've very unclear how the book page background was removed and why the security background is less sharp in the document area than other places.

But, I am convinced that the layers by themselves, which this article relies on, do not prove "forensic forgery."
