Help me with micro-scripts?
Vanity | April 29th, 2011 | Vanity

I want help in writing a series of conversations of about 7 sentences, imagining two disgruntled Obama supporters. This is to appeal to independents, not the conservative base. The ending, where the waiter speaks, is always the same. Although we could improve anything, of course. One simply video without faces can be used with different voice-overs. The visual "punch" is the denying of the refill. There is no money here... does anyone want to volunteer? Criticism is welcome, positive advice & new scripts would be fantastic!

TOPICS: Government; Politics; Society
KEYWORDS: advertisement; write; youtube
Example:

Close up of two coffee cups on the table of a diner. Two women are talking, we can just see their hands. The cups are labeled “hope” and “change”

First: So anyway, do you have time to eat?

Second: I have time, but no money: Bob is still out of work. You know, I really don’t want to talk about it.

First: I know how you feel. But were you watching television? I don’t think the news is gonna cheer you up.

Second: You mean another billion dollar oil war? Well, at least the stock market is doing better and the banks got stimulated.

First: woo-hoo, go bankers…

Waiter: Hi ladies, can I get you a refill on your “hope” and “change” ?

(Each immediately puts a hand over the tops of their cups.)

Second: No.

First: Not s’much.

Waiter: I know what you mean, you don’t want to over do it on all this change….

Second: Smart ass...

Have you thought about doing an animation? Take a look at xtranormal.com. I’ve seen some amazing stuff there.

Thinking along the lines of dem talking points- if web based, make hyperlinks to prove point: (please keep in mind, I am writing this script from the perspective of a Dem talking).

::first woman::
He promised to end Bush’s wars, instead he escalated them and starts more wars.

He promised to stop attacks on our civil liberties, instead there is more wiretapping, more control of the press, and even targeted the assassination of a US citizen, something only the nuttiest conspiracy theorists predicted Bush would do.

He promised to stop Bush era over-spending- he stopped Bush era spending though- by spending 10 times as much.

He promised to unite us, instead he just has us fighting more.

He promised to be transparent, instead, he is far more secretive than even Bush. He wouldn’t even let us see laws before he signed them even though he promised to give us a week to review them.

He promised to get to work, unlike Bush who kept taking vacations. Yet he has taken more vacations in a year than Bush did in 8.

He promised no more closed-door meetings with big-oil, instead, we get closed-door meetings with big-insurance, big-auto, big-media and yep, even big-oil.

He promised a trillion dollars would save GM, instead, they went bankrupt anyway.

He promised unemployment wouldn’t be above 8% if we listened to him, instead, it keeps going up and up and up and up.

He promised there would be no inflation- well, I guess he kept that- only by not counting food, gas, and energy with inflation.

He promised he would stop ban foreclosures, instead they are hitting records.

He promised a ‘new tone’, well, I guess we got that. A tone that sounds a lot like everything we complained about with Bush, only on steroids.

::other woman at the table::
But he is ::whispering:: black ::/whispering::. He is historic.

::first woman::
Oh yea, well I guess I shouldn’t criticize him then. He is wonderful. We can’t expect too much from him, that would be unfair. - sigh - So have you collected your unemployment check this week?

Two men at a coffee shop table. One in work clothes, one in a suit.

Man One. Its rough out there, Been out of work a year now.

Man Two. Tell me about it, my company folded two years ago.

Man One. Wasn’t the President supposed to fix this?

Man Two. Yeah, that’s all he talked about when he was runnin’ for the job.

Man One. I guess you got to be in a union to be helped.

Man Two. The way I see it. Things got to change.

Man One. The way I see it we got to change who’s in the White House.

I am thinking about xtranormal, thanks! My first “take” will be just real video of coffee cups and hands, but I made an animated thing about 9 months ago & it was a lot more fun to make than it was to watch. However, with practice, one can do good stuff. I will at least play around some more, it really is fun! THANKS!!

Thanks! I want to make a series. This is fun, at least for me! It will be just one video, but then with different voice-overs. Here is another example. They all start “So Anyway...” and end with THE WAITER and the denied refill. And, I want to hammer the MEDIA even more than Obama — less sympathy that way.

1: So anyway, if unemployment is going down, why aren’t my unemployed friends working?

2: Silly, unemployment doesn’t count the unemployed, it counts people receiving unemployment checks.

1: So when the benefits run out, the unemployment numbers look BETTER?

2: I guess the media kept that on the down-low.

Waiter: Hi ladies (etc)

Yes, exactly. We want PITHY to really punch. Each line or two could be the core of one script, with two witty ladies trading barbs. Very nice! And yes, always from the perspective of Obama supporters who are losing faith.

This is a little like the PC/Mac commercials, where the chubby PC guy looks like a fool. But our ladies will look like they are getting wise after having been fooled.

We could do a whole second set of two men talking. That would be a different dynamic. The possibilities seem nearly endless. These things almost write themselves — thanks!

How about use the first section in chunks with each talking point responded to with the other lady’s response, parroting the same response every time...

::first woman::
He promised to end Bush’s wars, instead he escalated them and starts more wars.

::second woman::
But he is historic, he is the first black president, what are you a racist?

Have the second woman respond with the same thing over and over.. it will be similar to the funny iPhone one that is going around.

1) So Anyway, I see Obama is campaigning hard

2) I wish he was creating hard jobs instead

1) then he wouldn’t need to campaign at all

2) Looks like he’d better get to another dozen fundraisers

waiter...

It’s good, but I’m thinking if we use “racist” or “muslum” then we switch the appeal from the Indy’s to the Base. Nothing wrong with that, especially if we can first generate a bit of traffic & fans. Of course, my understanding of the independent mind is sketchy at best. If the series takes off then the “view count” will help us figure out what works.

I would build my ad around Obama: Bad For America.

A man and a women dressed(in white w/wings) as Angels with Obama speaking (unintelligibly/litely) in the background...
You can make them say almost anything then.. LIKE..
--------------------------
1st Angel: Amazing the idiots that believe whatever this outrageous liar says...
2nd Angel: Give him a couple of weeks and he will speak the complete opposite..

Note: This scenario can have many sequels.. for additional ads..

While that is the main message, to sneak in a subliminal message for soon-to-be FORMER supporters, we have to use humor. If we hit it head on, well, then they will just ignore it. I want to MOCK those positions. Instead of “Bad for America” I’d rather say “Gee, not quite the miracle we were hoping for — missed it by THIS much!”

I mean, this is for a squishy audience.
