Coburn also endorsed McCain in 2008.

McCain was, unfortunately, the GOP Candidate in 2008. While I would have much preferred Fred Thompson as our candidate, his campaign never got off the ground. So other than Fred, who (among those who had any reasonable shot at the nomination) was your choice and received your endorsement? Romney? Guiliani? Huckabee? (Those are pretty much your only choices.)

Coburn selected McCain out of all the nominees you mentioned, including Fred Thompson, my choice. I confronted Coburn in SC during the primaries. I asked him outside a McCain rally why he would support someone who supported amnesty. He told me that he had a promise from McCain that he would not try to pass an amnesty if elected. I expressed my disappointment in his endorsement.

I spent three weeks in SC following the McCain campaign demonstrating against him on the issue of amnesty along with a number of my fellow grassroots group from VA. We also spent three weeks in FL demonstrating against McCain.

I lost a lot of respect for Coburn after he endorsed McCain. Coburn likes to get on his moral high horse to show how principled and patriotic he is. The reality is that he has feet of clay and is just as corrupt as the rest of them. His participation on the President's budget commission and vote in favor of its results plus being a member of the Gang of Six concern me. We are going to get tax hikes in the form of abolishing "loopholes." Congress will continue its profligate spending as long as we have enablers like Coburn.
