Well, I’m from Toronto and Pittsburgh is just a few hours away. I seen Buffalo (yeah, it’s OK), I will not set foot in Montreal or Detroit, Cleveland - maybe next year, and New York and Philly - been there, done that. I’ve never been to Pittsburgh and it looks nice based on its Wikipedia profile.

Wikipedia would make Calcutta look nice. Skip the Pitts. Since you’re already in Canada, go to Quebec City for a couple of days when it gets warmer. Nice, small walking city.
If you still want to visit the US this time of year, keep driving past Pitts to Virginia or Kentucky.

I live in Rochester and believe me, Buffalo is not OK. Neither is Rochester for that matter - "animal" problems.
I'd suggest you visit Rochester but our #1 tourist attraction is a Wegman's supermarket (no lie).
Ever been to Washington, DC? Better to fly there, but if you drive down you can spend a day at Gettysburg too.

You should try the Finger Lakes region if you like natural beauty. Ithaca can provide some of that city-like liberal feel if you need that in your destination.
