Trump is getting Palinitized by the right and left. They are painting him as evil, greedy, democrat—leaning, Rinosausus, Not too rich, Too Rich, elitist, Publicity Seeker, New Yorker, married to a Commie/Russie —You name it. FOR THIS REASON—
I SUPPORT HIM 100%! So many are ganging up on him—their must be a reason! Better Trump than Mitt! Better Trump than Obama. The system has failed us-—Our leaders are not listening to us. We must seize the moment—Shake things up! Break down the ivory towers-—replace them with Trump Towers.
I wouldn’t vote for Trump any more than I would vote for Ted Turner if he suddenly started making conservative noises.
He, by his own words is not acceptable.
Supports Kelo-style eminent domain use.
Has been pro-choice. AND sees Constitutional basis for legal abortion.
Has supported Dem candidates.
A: universal health care
Depends on how you define that. My understanding is that Trump has a plan, or will propose one soon, that solves our health insurance problems. Ignoring it doesn't fix it. He wants to repeal or defund Obamacare.
B: wealth tax
I think you are referring to his idea of a one time millionaire's tax to wipe out the national debt completely all at once. I want to hear more about this. It might be a good idea. Details please. Fiscal problems would be solved if we no longer were paying interest on the debt.
C: big government as solution as a life long reflex
I don't understand this one, so I can't comment
D: pro union
The Donald builds very large commercial buildings which require union labor. He can't publically oppose unions. I would like to hear details and his positions on union activity. Pro union, anti union, it just isn't that simple. Again, Details.
E: trade tariffs
Good idea! Slap a big tariff on China and anyone else taking advantage of us. Vendors NEED customers. In business, the customer is always right. Why should it be any different with trade. Make them all BEG us to be their customers on OUR terms.
F: reaching across the aisle is a good thing
This depends on what you mean by “reaching across the aisle”. Our legislation process is set up in the constitution to be this way. Without veto proof majorities in both houses, legislation is impossible without compromise, (reaching across the aisle).
Trump is doing the country a great service. While the MSM is bowing to 0, Trump is giving their asses a giant reaming, one at a time. I can’t wait until 0 gets his ass ripped off in the first debate with Trump!
I submit with all due respect that you did not get around my protestations at all. and you admitted you could not respond to one, which is the worst of all:
That is, he, by reflex, is a guy who looks at big government as the solution to all problems. I think the technical term for that is, um, lets see...oh yeah: LIBERAL.
Or, you could call it:
A: Statist
B: Marxist
C: Socialist
D: Kennedy-esque
And you had “excuses” only for his union stance and his reach across the aisle stance. In other words, you just like him and facts be damned. That’s your right, but I’m just sayin......
B - I think it was coupled with a repeal of the death tax.
Trump’s “wealth tax” idea was a “one time” 15% tax on net worth.
So, who here thinks a one time tax is ever a one time tax? And who here could easily pony up 15% in CASH for all of your tangible assets? Who here doesn’t see this as pure wealth distribution? Who here doesn’t believe the truly wealthy would find ways to “offset” their net worth with all kinds of fancy accounting?
I don’t care what you say —I will still support Trump—I believe he is right! If he tosses his hat into the ring he has my vote! The more people rag on him—the more loyal I will become.
BY all means, be loyal. I do not believe he is what we need. He is a RINO, as much as Romney, just a different package.
“So what is the point, then, of conservatives supporting him for president? “
The point is that it is extremely unlikely that this country will elect a true conservative right now.
I’m in the ABO camp (except Romney, of course). Sure I would love any number of great conservatives to be President. But it might take a fresh face, a beltway outsider, and a non-ideologue to beat Obama. I’m personally flexible enough that I’ll vote for someone who doesn’t agree with me 100%, especially if that someone will take down Obama.
