31 Unlicensed Drivers Cited, Vehicles Impounded at Vista Checkpoint
Examiner ^ | April 17th, 2011 | Jeff Schwilk

Posted on 04/18/2011 10:25:45 AM PDT by moonshinner_09

The Vista Sheriffs Station conducted a Drunk Driving/License checkpoint Saturday night on Civic Center Dr. right in front of city hall. The large parking lot there came in handy for the 41 vehicles that were impounded and towed. 31 of the impounds were for unlicensed drivers, almost all of them Latino illegal aliens based on 3 hours of direct observation (see photos at left).

The checkpoint also caught and arrested 7 people for under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a Sheriff's press release. Their vehicles were also seized in accordance with California law.

According to Sgt. Petrofsky, the senior deputy at the scene, there were no protesters and the checkpoint was running smoothly at this new location. Vista Sheriffs normally do about two checkpoints per month at various locations around the city. He said he believes the highly publicized checkpoints along with near-weekly saturation patrols are a very effective deterrent to drunk driving. The number of drunk driving crashes has dropped about 35% in the past couple of years since they began aggressively going after drunk drivers.

Illegal aliens driving illegally in Vista are another matter as indicated by high number of citations last night. Sgt Petrofsky said they cite some of the same illegal alien drivers repeatedly. Many of the illegal drivers buy cheap "junker" cars so when they get caught and impounded, they just go buy another junker instead of paying the high fees to get the impounded vehicle back. Driving without insurance and registration is another common problem according to sheriffs deputies. Illegal aliens in San Diego Country are gaming the system and violating U.S. laws all the while, and there is not much that can be done about it under current laws and penalties.

Apparently this Vista is the only one that works.

Duh. I wonder why my insurance rates are so high even though I have perfect driving record.

actually it is NOT illegal for an illegal to drive without a driver’s license, because you need a driver’s license from that state you are a resident at. They are not listed as residents, which is how they get away with it.

Just think, this kind of criminality is immensely popular with the left.
Democrats are all for this.

“actually it is NOT illegal for an illegal to drive without a driver’s license, because you need a driver’s license from that state you are a resident at. They are not listed as residents, which is how they get away with it.”

I don’t know the rules in California, but in Arizona, people who are employed must get Arizona driver’s licenses and Arizona license plates for their cars within 10 days. The DPS used to sweep state parking lots every now and then; employees who were caught had to buy plates immediately and were subject to sizable fines. There probably are some exemptions, but drivers still need to have licenses.

Just because it is effective does NOT mean I want to live in a town, or a country where roadblock checkpoints are tolerated.

This used to be “This Land of Liberty”. Not so much any more.

It’s real simple. Are you willing to transfer your Liberties to the government in return for the illusion of safety and order?

I vote NO. Safety and order do not exist on this planed. So I will choose Liberty.

If I was ever stopped at one of these checkpoints, I would probably be arrested for refusing to cooperate, questioning the legality of the stop, and so on....wonder if they would tase me???

“wonder if they would tase me???”

Of course you’d get tazed.
The question is how often, and from how many directions.

In my state, anyone behind the wheel of a car has to have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a registration.

Traveling on any highway in the USA on Saturday night is very dangerous because of all the drunks on the road, many of them illegals who have can’t drive very well sober, but who feel it is their duty to get blind drunk on weekends.

Not really. I live in Vista, and this place is overrun with illegal aliens. Not as bad as Escondido, but almost.

The problem is, they simply take away their cars, and release the illegals. Not that it would matter anyways, for if they deport them they’ll be back in Vista in less than 12 hours.

Give me a break. FEDGOV refuses to go after illegal aliens. In fact if the good people of San Diego were to crackdown on the invaders the FEDGOV would use deadly force to protect the illegal aliens!

Sounds like your problem is with PUBLIC ROADS. You can avoid all of that by staying home. Or, buy in one of those gated communities that has stores within walking distance.

I kind of like to have the drunks off the road when I'm out driving, but there are so many people who actually seem to like to drive drunk these checkpoints seem to be the only way to deal with them.

Or, alternatively, you could PRIVATIZE the meting out of justice to drunk drivers that cause highway problems. Then the cops could stop for coffee and eat doughnuts while sober drivers took care of problems.

The illegals shouldn't have been there in the first place. You wouldn't have been hiring them to come around here would you?

“The illegals shouldn’t have been there in the first place. You wouldn’t have been hiring them to come around here would you?”

Whaaaa? I am am hiring who??????

Illegals are easy enough to get rid of. Don’t let their children into the schools, don’t give them drivers licenses, don’t let them into the hospitals without cold hard cash, don’t let them pay taxes, don’t let them collect social security. If a Police officer sees one instant jail time, hard time on a highway crew. Illegals solved.

Drunk Drivers: I drive alot. I have averaged 1000 miles a week for the last 15 years. I see a drunk driver, I get the hell away from them give them lots of space. I drive AWAKE. When a drunk causes property damage, put them away FOR EVER! No three and four time offenders who blew .08 on the breathalyzer. What that means is raise the drunk level to a responsible level then never ever let the bastards out of jail who cause property damage. DRIVE AWAKE. Be aware of who and what is around you. You will be fine. Or maybe not. In this world their are NO guarantees. The State cannot keep you safe, your momma can’t keep you safe. Jesus may, but then again he may not.

But give me liberty above all things. I will accept risk instead of transferring it to the State provided illusion of safety.

Be safe, stay alert, and keep the Fing village out of my hair.
