In 2006 I quoted this passage concerning Democrats piety:
A prince, wrote Niccolo Machiavelli in 1532, must appear to all who see and hear him to be pious faithful honest humane, and completely religious. And nothing is more important than to appear to have that last quality.
A prince need not actually be religious, the Renaissance political analyst hastened to add, and will probably be more effective as a ruler if he is unencumbered by genuine religious scruples. But a prince must appear to be religious because the masses always follow appearances and the world is nothing other than the masses.(source)
I was making the point then that Democrats acts of piety are at best acts. So what is it with Democrats? Youd think that the word God was the new N word. Senator Reid commenting on the pledge of allegiance just couldnt bring himself to say the G word.

Why not just post it here?
Dennis had a great line, Democrats scream if you bring up Jesus's name until someone says I believe Darwin was right about survival of the fittest.
Then they said Jesus would not like that.
IMHO, this has more to do with socialism/big-government than religion.
“...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,...”
This the core line of the Declaration of Independence. It is the single idea that seperates the American form of government from every other government in the history of the world.
Individual rights come from a power higher than government. Government can neither grant nor remove rights. The rights of every individual simply are; they exist and cannot be changed or modified.
This is at odds with the socialist/modern view of government. Government determines rights; government grants rights; and government removes rights. Individual rights are fluid, they change depending on the needs of the government and society.
This is why the left wants to strip “under God” from the pledge. They want to remove the idea that there is a power higher than the government; that the government isn’t all powerfull, that the government does not have the last word when it comes to individual rights.
You got to the heart of it.
I should point out that it isn’t just the Democrats with a “God problem.” Overwhelmingly, the Republicans and Libertarians have one as well.
Which is, of course, at the core of why this free republic is in the fix it’s in.
The Left can recognize no greater enemy than a god greater than elite man. Anything in America that even sniffs of such a god must be reviled and rejected.
The thought of an omnipotent God who grants us natural rights is such an antiquated 18th century concept. In modern times, who better to grant us rights than the greedy vote-whores who couldn't care less about those rights?
In Washington DC there are thousands of little jealous gods, all eager to squash you like a bug, chafing under any check and balance measure that holds them at bay.
They have no morals and no God. They praise homosexuals, demand abortion, embrace illegals, blame Republicans for Democrat failures and believe bigger government is the answer to everything.
