Daschunds are a British breed specifically bread to go into one end of a badger hole and chase the prey out.
Mine has made friends with the rat that moved in under my shed after I offed the skunk that lived there. He could scarcely kill a flea.

Cute! I love the look of puppies, but not the work.
********************************************
Isn't that the truth. I just had a litter of 8 English Mastiffs, and I'm down to my last two.
They are just adorable in pictures.
However, when they are knocking over food and water dishes, peeing on each other, or trying to eat each others poop, than they are not so cute.

God gave us puppies because he loves us and wants us to be happy! :D I don't EVER intend to become dogless!

LS...so sorry to hear that. It’s been my experience that if you humbly accept the pain you feel as pain that you spared and carry for little Yankee, it becomes somewhat easier to bear.

British? They are German. “Dachshund” translates literally to “badger dog”.

You get credit for your research.
The breed was established as German. The Franco and British contributions are still in contention. Some believe the breed originated in Egypt.
There is no question that those in Germania used this hound to flush badger.
I love this place, it keeps one in line with reality.
It is my Monday, time to go.
Godspeed to you.

So sorry for your loss. I had a Yorkie for 14 years and 5 months. He had to be put to sleep in February of 1991. I still grieve for her. She was a fabulous girl. God bless you and think of the good times with Yankee.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I know it is painful to lose a dog.

Not just a German Shepherd, the rare Flying German Shepherd. (Cut him a break, he’s just a pup. He’ll achieve more altitude when he’s older. ;-) )

That’s not a German Shepherd. The 4 pups sleeping by the iron fence - 2 B&Ts, 2 sables - are GSD. The next photo is not. ;-)

"amen" to your tag line! ; )
(no further comment about the fab. "puppies" thread/pix, except to say that daschunds - sic - are wonderful dogs in my experience! as are all dogs usually, in general, AND, I can't recommend enough considering "one-of-a-kind" rescue dogs for family pets, including adopting older dogs...we have two right now, of "indeterminate mixed breed", who've been our companions for 6-7 years, and you could not wish for better dogs, or - ALAS - ever find ones like them again!)

They are pretty neat dogs....I have noticed one thing about them : Books on the dog breeds of the world will describe the dachshund's character flaws personality traits and all the havoc they cause, but then will add, "The dachshund is so much fun to have around that it makes up for any minor annoyances". Seriously, I've seen that sentence in SEVERAL dog encylopedia's section on the dachshund. This probably reflects the tendency of dog breed encyclopedia writers to crib from each other, but it struck me that as it is, the dachshund is the only dog breed that comes with a disclaimer...or a warning to prospective owners.

I’ve seen some German shepherd pups with similar coloring as the one in photo #6, but I’ll take your word for it.

The are natural clowns, we have a pup (He is actually on the young adult stage now.) That has a whole repertoire of “See me I am cute tricks” that he pulls out whenever he is a) caught doing something wrong, b)wants your attention and/or c) Knows you are looking at him.
He is a mini red with a hint of black tiger striping so his name is Tiger. Currently we have two minis. (We have had standards, I prefer standards, my wife prefers minis. But her favorite was a BIG black standard (20% larger then a normal standard!) H was a big goofy mama's boy. Unfortunately he died young, age 7, might be related to his enormous size.
