The Left usually appear to be a bunch of atheists who think that religion is a bunch of hooey. But this is not strictly true. The Left does not automatically hate religion.

They just hate Christianity.

I would say that this is the central tenet of the Left, and has been since the French Revolution (which was extremely anti-clerical). The Left is at war with the God of the Bible. Other gods? Oh, they're ok.
