Though not a gambler, I would bet Donald Trump
follows FR through, at least, due diligence.
(1) Axiom of fame: ALL publicity is good publicity. Personalities as diverse in morals as Bill Maher, Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen on the "evil, malevolent, broken, and insane" side of the balance beam, and the Palin Family on the opposite side understand and apply that POWERFUL dynamic.
(2) Trump's inscrutable media personality is utterly defiant of type-casting. Unique New York has many unique New Yorkers and among the unique New Yorkers Trump is a uniquely unique New Yorker. The line he has taken in this issue plays to that uniqueness.
(3) Trump is luxuriantly wealthy, and lives in an ultra-high life style which is the utter envy of all those who would normally bash a person daring to publicly express such a low-brow incessantly mocked view. It borders on the near-impossible for those who envy such a rich high-style life to mock someone they envy for it. To them it would be a like form of of soul-killing blasphemy.
