Geraldine Ferraro passes away. Palin remembers Ferraro.

Democrat and female pioneer for women in politics, Geraldine Ferraro passed away today in the age of 75 from her battle with blood cancer. She was a classy and smart woman who would discuss politics, and may differ with Republicans, but was always respectful.

As a woman, I admire Ferraro’s tenacity and paving the way for others in politics. We may disagree on politics, but she never demeaned the other side. Pure class.

More from CNN:

In 1985, Ferraro was the first female vice presidential candidate from a major U.S. political party when she ran with Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale.

They lost by a landslide to Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan and vice presidential candidate George H.W. Bush. In what became the first of Reagan’s two terms in the White House, the Reagan-Bush ticket won the popular vote 58.8% to 40% and then nearly swept the electoral votes, 525 to 13.

In 1978, she was elected as a U.S. representative for the 9th Congressional District of New York and was re-elected in 1980 and 1982.

Sarah Palin wrote on Facebook:

My family and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine Ferraro. When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women. Flashback, via RuBegonia on Twitter, of Ferraro and Palin, the only two women VP, talking politics. A profound moment. Two female pioneers for each of their parties.

Remember when Palin became the nominee? Ferraro talked about how proud of a moment it was for women, to have a female in a ticket for the presidency. I’ll always remember that.

I understand it. Your definition of “classy” is just dumb...and immature.

Ever play against a hated school rival in sports, and have the coach prodd you to out and congratulate them on a good game afterwards?

We bemoan the lack of civility in the body politic, especially when it’s directed against our side, and yet we have people bemoaning the civility of one of our own against someone on the other side?

Sarah showed basic human decency and compassion to a family that has lost a loved one, even if she was the political polar opposite. And while they were polar opposites, they were members of a very exclusive club: The only two women to ever be nominated on the VP ticket in the USA.

The left may never again show similar respect, but we shouldn’t let that fact pull us down to their level.

I was taught that if you have something disparaging say at the dead it is best to wait at least 30 days to utter such remarks. Give the family time to grieve.

I disagree. I thought that Ferraro was a smarmy woman, and a horrible choice for VP. She had to read a script during a “debate”, b/c they could not trust her. No executive experience whatsoever, much like the Punk. But Sarah said exactly the right thing upon hearing the news. The American people are dumb as stumps, and a lukewarm tribute or silence would have been viewed as classless. She DOES have to peel away feminist votes to win. Bob

A very good rule when applied to people, but we are talking politicians here ;-)

Or she’s more politically correct. Geraldine was a total b&tch to Sarah. She had total disdain for her.

Just calling it like I see it which isn’t hard to do when watching a liberal like her.

Sarah’s comments are fine and appropriate. Sarah is a class act and she wanted to express condolences to the Ferraro’s family in a nice, public way, and she succeeded. Sounds like they were friendly personally from the gist of it, too. Perhaps not terribly close, but friendly enough that she felt enough of a connection with Ferraro to speak from the heart. This quality should be applauded, and not discouraged. Regardless of what some individuals like to believe, it’s not all about partisan politics. Sarah did and said the right thing.

I suppose this includes Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao Tse-tung, etc

That's an impressive list of mass murdering criminals, some of the worst that world history has had to offer. But realize that there isn't one politician on the American scene today in that class, not even Obama, you moron.

“It’s called being gracious.”

You can’t teach class to people. You either learn it and have it, or you don’t.

One attribute of a classy person is graciousness. Palin showed that.

And certainly the VERY DAY OF THEIR DEATH, if you don’t have something good to say, try to just conceal your classlessness by keeping quiet.

I didn't see it the way you did. I don't remember a lot about it but I think I would if I had thought GF was a total beotch.

Aside from that, Sarah can say and do whatever she wants.

When anybody dies, it's usually best to say nothing for a while if you can't say something nice.

I don’t agree with Geraldine on much, but she seems to be a very decent like human being.

They appeared together on Fox and had communications after Palin was nominated. Sarah had great regard for Geraldine so why shouldn’t she have given her regards? I swear you’re the most cynical person on this board. I pray someone shows you kindness and grace- and right soon.

I swear threads like these make me embarrassed to be a freeper. Heavens knows conservatives shouldn’t have liberal friends let alone say gracious things about them. How could I ever consider voting for Palin now????

Why should I hold my thoughts on Ferraro just because she died? Seriously, if I thought she was a b&tch, then I’m going to say it. My feeling is that she reaps what she sows. If she treated Sarah like sh&t, then I have no oblitgation to hold my tongue about it now. Sarah, OTOH, must hold her tongue or she would be crucified and you know it.

You're right! Why should you?

In the past it was considered uncouth to speak ill of the dead...but those days are gone forever. The world has lost a lot of it's civility to the "me" generation, which you obviously are a part of.

...and you seem to be apart of the ‘attack your fellow conservative’ generation. I didn’t like Ferarro when she was alive and it was her intent to make this country a very inhospitipal place for my wife and children so for that I don’t miss her one bit. She reaped what she sowed. Liberalism is evil as far as I’m concerned.

If you don’t like how I feel, then simply stop posting to me. It really doesn’t get much more simple than that does it?

~Cheers

There are a lot more dangerous and unlikeable people around than Geraldine Ferarro and I can't believe you are in such a snit over a 75 year old woman who hasn't done much of anything in the past few years. I disliked her in her prime.

Running to the "Admin Moderator" is pathetic. Besides not having good manners, you are a "tattle tale."

If there is anything worse than Liberals, it's sissy Conservatives!
