Democrat and female pioneer for women in politics, Geraldine Ferraro passed away today in the age of 75 from her battle with blood cancer. She was a classy and smart woman who would discuss politics, and may differ with Republicans, but was always respectful.
As a woman, I admire Ferraro’s tenacity and paving the way for others in politics. We may disagree on politics, but she never demeaned the other side. Pure class.

In 1985, Ferraro was the first female vice presidential candidate from a major U.S. political party when she ran with Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale.
They lost by a landslide to Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan and vice presidential candidate George H.W. Bush. In what became the first of Reagan’s two terms in the White House, the Reagan-Bush ticket won the popular vote 58.8% to 40% and then nearly swept the electoral votes, 525 to 13.
In 1978, she was elected as a U.S. representative for the 9th Congressional District of New York and was re-elected in 1980 and 1982.

When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women. Remember when Palin became the nominee? Ferraro talked about how proud of a moment it was for women, to have a female in a ticket for the presidency. I’ll always remember that.

I’m not too sure all of the aborted babies that she’s shared responsibility in sealing their fate would agree with you on that. Geraldine was a wicked woman with a lot of innocent blood on her hands and I don’t feel one bit bad saying so. As I sat today in the 90 deg weather of south Texas I feel confident in the fact that it was much cooler here that where Geraldine currently resides.

Yeah. That’s why that whole 17% of the governing legislative body is so unimportant to you. We just can’t find any “good” women, right champ?
I agree with you. What did she really do? Democrats love to celebrate the losers in their party. Geraldine Ferraro wa a loser. Now, I’m not making a commentary on her character..didn’t know her. But this lionizing of her is absurd. How many times did she go on to lose. 2 or 3? when I heard Fox was going to do a special on her I gagged..and then Palin’s thing. Enough.
Women are a majority in America. They also live longer. I have voted for women. Your problem is with other women, not me or male voters.

I’ve no doubt what you cite is true. Nevertheless, now is an unseemly occasion to post it (you should at least have the social grace to wait for an over-the-top Donk eulogy to rebut).
They should just say nothing, or at the most, say “our prayers are with the family”. Condolences show social grace. Praise is for the praiseworthy.

You’re the one that’s pissing on a woman’s open grave. I’m the one pointing out that Sarah was making a point of why so many women don’t get involved in politics. She’s talking about the likes of you.

We disagreed on the issues but she was one of the last decent, non hair-on-fire Democrats. It’s right that she is being remembered with respect.
