I recently returned to my homeland in Libya for the first time in 41 years. I and other members of the royal family endured a long exile in Cairo and elsewhere, keeping our heads down during years when Moammar Ghadafi had hit squads deployed to assassinate opposition elements around the globe. Now is the time to return and reunite to overthrow the dictatorial regime in Tripoli. My fear, however, is that the democratic moment may pass if the free world dawdles in indecision.
The forces for progress in Libya need help now. Col. Ghadafis forces have beaten back rebel elements and retaken ground that had been won at great cost. In Benghazi alone, more than 380 young unarmed protesters sacrificed their lives before elements of the armed forces could be compelled to change sides, thus tipping the balance in favor of the liberation of eastern Libya from the forces of the dictator. In Baida, over 100 perished in the hands of Ghadafi-employed African mercenaries from Chad, Niger and Mali, prompting local police forces and members of the army to break ranks from the regime to protect their unarmed countrymen.
There would be long-term consequences for international inaction. Young people inspired with hope for change for the future have risen up to join the opposition. Ive met young people in their teens and twenties who left behind comfortable lives in London and Manchester, England, to go to north Africa and fight for the liberation of our country....

No mention of Islam in the article. Intentional omission. The writer doesn’t want to scare us off.
He wants his family back in power, I’m guessing...
I know nothing about his family but I’m guessing it’s better than what’s REALLY going to happen: Islamic Fundamentalist Dictatorship.
Does anyone else get the feeling that some European leadership has turned on their q-man ? After all, I think it wound up being really embarassing to them that he was behind the Pan Am bombing, he’s been selling them oil making money all along, he got them to let the bomber guy with cancer go free to a hero’s welcome and now the guy is still alive. I think it burns their butt that he’s been stickin’ it to them, they’ve never had the guts to go up against him until now. He’s always been a thorn in the side of us too, the whole western world, really.
Really, ALL mid east countries have been playing ALL western countries, that is since they really started with terrorism, maybe the 60’s, certainly the 70’s.
Europe has seen U.S. do the “no-fly-zone” thing so many times (hah) they just knee-jerk came up with that suggestion. They think GWB is still in office ! Zerobama probably is not really returning calls and saying anything meaningful. So they’re running around playing diplomant getting each other to all go in on this. Who knows how it will go; never saw anything so goofy as this. We have no idea who the “rebels” are ??? Well, change that, we’re basically 99% sure they’re radical, anti-American, anti-European fanatical suicide bombers-in-training. A big mob looking for a lone, lost, unarmed westerner from a charitable organization or the media to kidnap and murder.
Zerobama doesn’t care about anything any more - his job is done (he’s pushed the stick forward and we’re heading towards the ground). He could care less if he is re-elected or not. He’s just waiting for the U.S. to collapse and livin’ large until then. Painfully obvious. He has nothing left to do other than minor things that annoy Americans like he’ll probably pardon some commies, etc., before he leaves. Any other annoying things that fall into his lap that he can do. Other than that, he is on cruise control until next President is sworn in.
Says the guy who wants to be king. Cognitive dissonance.
The King Idris of Libya was a pro-Western Constitutional monarch. He was in the process of abdicating in favor of his nephew (due to ill health) when Gaddafi overthrew the constitutional government in a coup.
Thanks for that info. Perhaps such a model would be good for Libya. As it is, I’m not holding my breath.
