Teachers like to think of themselves as licensed professionals, but fiercely resist being held to any measurable standard.

If you're a doctor, lawyer, engineer, even a hairdresser or a manicurist, and are licensed by the state you can have your license revoked for malpractice, negligence, etc.

If you have a teaching certificate, you can continue to turn out a shoddy product year after year with no consequences.
