Everybody was a newbie at some time. I was, and so were you. Don't get pissed. Perhaps pointing him to the homepage and letting him read about the rules for posting is where he should go if he is serious.

I know people who are working on this. I was called in by the Army to evaluate their work. You seem to think no one is working on the problem, which is flat-out wrong.

By the way, I hope none of the information about what is being done gets out into the public. The last thing we need is for our enemy to know the methods being studied to detect IEDs. Loose lips sink ships.

Imaging and diffing entire cities with the required resolution, day or night, fair weather or foul, is not an easy task. There are other things we can (and do) do. The blogger is right - the highest return is in going after the source, the bomb planters are simple cannon fodder.

Hyperspectral cameras are very expensive and touchy to environmental issues. At 200K and up, they are division level tools. Very few are small enough to put on a UAV.
We need squad and platoon level tools for this, and the price point for that will be 10K or less. Or a solution that will fit on an average UAV.
Trust me, there are people working on this and other aspects.
One trick the bad guys use is to bury a new bomb where EOD has just removed one, so the disturbed earth is overlooked (the assumption will be that the fresh dirt was caused by the EOD team).

My sniper nephew reported watching mom, dad, and kids plant an IED in Iraq.
The best way to combat IED’s is to kill them all. By the millions.

OK, I’ll tell you what I think. You are a blog pimp of the worst kind. You don’t even post about anything someone not living under a rock wouldn’t already know. Ditch the blog; you’re not that important and you post about dumb things.
My grandson’s truck got hit with one. The noise was so loud, he lost most of his hearing, and will need hearing aids. Instead of coming home, he opted to stay in Afghanistan at a desk job, until his unit leaves this summer.
He is a blogger and it is his content. No violation. You need to spank yourself.
If so, what prevents him from posting it here?
