Tim DeChristopher was convicted yesterday of two federal counts related to fraudulently bidding on oil and gas leases auctioned by the Bureau of Land Management. He faces a maximum 10 years in federal prison and fines. Prosecutors have stated that they will not seek the maximum sentence. DeChristopher will be sentenced in June 2011.

Tim DeChristopher is a convicted tree hugger who was out to disrupt the legal bidding of land for lease for development of oil and natural gas. Instead of seeking legal avenues to redress his grievances, which we all have as citizens, he chose to disrupt the business of companies, the business of the tax payers, and the business of the of the government in order to make his point that we need to save the earth from global warming.

Sentence him to a year living off the land in the North Slope without any modern equipment. In the unlikely event he makes it, he will return the biggest technophile you ever saw.

I didn’t know the BLM was responsible for auctioning off oil and natural gas rights!

I hope not. Polar bears have enough problems without food poisoning.

Well, finally some good news for the Rule of Law, for a change.

He'll probably get a slap on the wrist, and make oodles of money as a poster child to the Envirowackos, writing books, etc. I'm waiting for the made-for-tv movie (I'm being sarcastic).

I happened upon a magazine called "E" (in the cast-off magazine area of the library), which has a glowing, fawning article about the guy. It was part of a lament of "where are all the activists?"

Yes, there is an entire glossy magazine on Environmental Activism.

Thanks for the update. He is a folkhero in a backwater publication. Amazing! Maybe in prison he will suffer for the spotted owl and refuse to breathe to limit CO2.
