Finding a Campaign Manager
27 Feb 2011 | Myself

FReepers experienced in running for office --- can you help out a novice??? I want to do things as 100% right as humanly possible. I need to find a campaign manager who knows the ropes so that everything is done as it is supposed to be. Unfortunately, unlike other professions, there does not seem to be any "group" or association for campaign managers. I am in a rural District in Texas. Anyone got any ideas???

Of course, the conventional wisdom is that I will not be able to unseat an incumbent, but I think we saw a lot of that very thing happen in the last election. I am seeking and attending all available candidate training and other political meetings --- perhaps I will luck into meeting the one I am looking for at training.

I know how important a campaign manager will be for my campaign. Again, any ideas???

I was campaign manager here in Las Vegas in 2004 and 2006.

You best bet is to go to the party headquarters and ask about who are a the most motivated volunteers they have. pick about5 to ask, many will say no)

Interview them and find out if they have ever raised money for the party of anything else.

If you strike out there, find a Toastmaster group and ask the chapter president who in the club or district is into politics (there are both conservative and liberal toastmaster groups so pick correctly)

If all else fails, because you don’t “click” or the only candidate want too much money, do it yourself.

If you can speak well, know how to ask for money and have a few well connected friends or acquaintances, you MAY BE able to run your own campaign.

I know a lot of former and current politicians and all but one or two ran their first campaign themselves. Only one actually one his first campaign.

Message and money: one without the other is useless.

Whoa, that is my district! I’m all in favor of getting rid of Thornberry. He’s been there long enough and hasn’t been outspoken enough for my tastes.

I’d love to see some first time candidates run for office. While there are obvious benefits in being involved with the GOP “machine”, that has also been the problem.

I wouldn’t be any help to you, but I do wish you much luck. If you have a good platform I could possibly do some volunteer work for you if you need it. :)

Listen to Free Vulcan. His advice is spot on.

Trust but verify. Trust but verify. Trust but verify.

Keep us posted. I wish you luck and a full campaign warchest.

I have been actively involved with both the local Republican Party for many years and the local Tea Party since it originated -— but am in a small rural town.

You are planning far enough ahead. That’s Great.
You have plenty of time to find the right campaign manager and there is great advise on this thread.

Now, spend 2011 doing two things:
drafting a campaign plan- put pencil to paper. This will serve as a guide for the Manager you eventually hire.

and networking with “our side” (Pro Life, Sportsman Assoc, NRA, Tea/Patriot/9-12) — use this year to shore up your base so you can spend 2012 focused on the less engaged, the “middle” and peeling away votes in your opponents base.
