I was shocked when I saw this number. The gravy train is really over for public employee unions. Citizens are sick to death of their strikes, threats of strikes, whining, caterwauling, and incompetence.
It wouldn't be this bad probably, if government, at any level, worked. But Americans look at the cluster fark that government has become and wonder why we are paying these bozos so much?
Politico:
"A new poll from the Washington-based Clarus Group asked: Do you think government employees should be represented by labor unions that bargain for higher pay, benefits and pensions ... or do you think government employees should not be represented by labor unions?
A full 64% of the respondents said 'no.'
That includes 42% of Democrats, and an overwhelming majority of Republicans. Only 49% of Democrats think public workers should be in unions at all.
That's on the fundamental right to organize, before you get to wages and benefits. And that puts Scott Walker in a pretty good political place."
The poll was conducted using 1001 registered voters.
A huge backlash against what's happening in Wisconsin is building. It's Obamacare all over again only this time, it's even worse. Obama has publicly sided with the bad guys and Democrats are being seen as the party standing in the way of getting our fiscal house in order at the federal and state level.
Let's hope Democrats continue to have a death wish on this issue.
Lefties have bitten off more than they can chew, big time, this time. They can not win this argument, and will not, if for no other reason than there is no money for pay for liberal pipe dreams.
Better still, Obie’s exposed himself in direct opposition to this 64%. All across the US the govt. is fighting the people; whether it’s unions in Wis or Ohio, the EPA in the Gulf, immigration in Az.
Obie and the Dems are cracking up, they must see the trouble that’s headed their way with all their great work of the last legislative session being undone and unfunded.
They might be able to run across state lines and hide for a while, but eventually reality will bite ‘em in the ass.
imho it’ll take down not only dems, libs, lefties, and Obie, but unions too. Love it love it love it. This is better than the ass-kicking delivered in Nov.
It is relatively new, but the part that is amazing is that they will do all the legwork for you - free of charge. The unions DO NOT want the minions to know this court decision, let alone this group exists.
It is more than that. The (terrorist) threat of violence is all they really have. They are counting on intimidation carrying the field.
If unemployment and taxes werent so high a lot more people would join in.
People don't see the rocks until the tide goes out. It's pretty hard for some one sitting at home trying to figure out how they are going to pay their bills to have sympathy for some 'poor working stiff' who is whining about having to pick up part of the tab for their insurance, when I read teachers there are pushing 100K a year. It's tough for someone who would dangnear kill for a job to have pity on someone walking off of theirs.
The policies which have caused the fiscal disarray in this country have come from government largesse, and that breeds little sympathy for public employees, either.
LLS
“In his case, “self-employed” probably means he opens his own envelope when the welfare check comes.”
hahaha...so true
Well, indirectly, the self employed probably should support unions. The unions will price themselves out of the market and the self employed can come in and get the contracts.
You may be wrong. I'm in Texas, a Right to Work state and handled payroll for several years. The company honored the Teamsters contract in wages, benefits and holidays even though we had only about 1/4 of our employees actually paying union dues. These days, payroll is handled at an outside firm, but I don't know of anyone who actually belongs to a union. Attitudes are different now. There may never be a better climate to break the union stranglehold on local governments and to end the madness of collective bargaining and forced union dues.
Great and I was shocked to learn that the hero Of all the Left wing loons One Franklin Delanor Roosevelt was OPPOSED to Government employees being Unionized!
Yes...it was Kennedy who legalized it with an executive order.
Shoot, I HOPE I’m wrong.
I’ve just seen their demagoguery work too many times.
Most people here think the tide has turned. I agree that they have lost membership once the members get a dose of union thug reality. Or even more likely, when the company goes out of business or moves elsewhere.
But the level of class resentment seems to actually be growing in America and that doesn’t hurt the unions’ chances one bit.
Even if the government employees ARE represented by a Union, the people they need to negotiate with ARE THE TAXPAYERS~!!! not other government employees
With all due respect, I think you got things sorta backwards. Here's how I'd say it:
The unions and trial lawyers serve themselves, and the democrat party is are nothing but an extension of the democrat party unions and trial lawyers.
Thanks, Johnny G! Can't be said often enough!
To wit:
There's a fundamental difference between unions in the private sector and unions for government employees. It's apples to oranges.
Government employee unions are in effect "bargaining with themselves" since they exercise disproportionate influence in electing the political officials with whom they bargain, whereas private sector workers normally are bargaining with company officials whom they don't elect.
His understanding of this fundamental difference explains why even FDR himself, the greatest of all liberal/progressive heroes, was unalterably opposed to unions for government employees.
PS: Let's be careful not to call them "government workers." While many do in fact "work," a lot of them are simply "employed" without regard to any particular real work.
But they are not concerned with public relations.
They are concerned with fundamental transformation.
Over and over again, history teaches that force must be met with force.
We now have a government with one set of rules for the Cambridge Police Department, and another for the New Black Panther Party. One set of rules for Republican campaigns, and another for Democrats.
One set of rules for Wisconsin elected representatives, and another for the SEIU.
One definition of "civility" for us, another for them.
I have predicted since David Boies first articulated the "will of the people" argument in November 2000 in Florida that the Democrats would eventually come to rely on an SA.
They no longer accept that arithmetical counting of votes confers legitimacy to rule. They have not accepted this since at least 2000, and perhaps before.
They win an election? Fine. Blood is a big expense.
They lose? Look at their standard behavior now after they lose, everywhere. Florida. Washington State. Minnesota. Those were close, so cheating, or trying to cheat, was enough.
But a landslide like Wisconsin? Forget about it. That means war.
"We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America".
You thought he was kidding?
Hey Unions, how about some “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
American unions are socialists, in bed with international socialists, and will not consider anything but socialism.
IMHO.
Yet one of the most important job in the country is educating our kids.
They are doing a job that most would be closed for failure.
They are just a cash cow for the Democrats: Tax the suckers to pay the unions top dollar so they pay into your campaign so you can tax the suckers more after re-election.
If 64% feel this way, then they damn well better start voting this way or we are screwed...
No more Obamanation votes!!!!!!!
Yep, but it's because of the ass kicking delivered in November.
I'm feeling a thrill going up and down my leg just watching the msm wail and moan and slant and twist and still know, that in the end, they will loose.
It's going to spread and it will get here to PA and this is really the heart of union country.
Wait until you see what real union thuggery looks like.
The unions, the mob and the kluckers were once the most powerful groups of united bigots ever to roam PA.
The difference is that today, everyone is armed, not just the bad guys.
