Perhaps nothing so illustrates President Obamas occasional disconnect with reality than his fervent advocacy of high-speed rail. Amid mounting pressure for budget cuts that affect existing programs, including those for the inner city, the president has made his $53 billion proposal to create a national high-speed rail network as among his top priorities.

It’s state welfare. Look at Florida’s rejection and what happened to the money.
Obviously lobbyists for the rail system are in Obama’s pockets.
Probably the best thing new FL Governor Rick Scott did was tell Obama to stuff his 2.4 billion dollar high-speed rail loan for FL. Scott passed on it because the state would end up footing a bill much higher than the federal grant would have paid...and FL does not have the money
Rick Scott called it right....FL does not have the money for high speed rail
just more union jobs to build nothing from the illegal POS!
Hasn’t he heard of “aircraft”?
Those tin geese used to be fast until the TSA.
“occasional” disconnect??
Non-stop disconnect...
Maybe it’s because he wants to get out of town in a hurry.
He doesn’t care about the train. It just represents the “miracle of communism” in that it is a useless project that takes state money (which we call “TAXES”) and uses it to employ the masses on a busy-work project. It’s like the small-scale version of the Chinese ghost cities. This is his dream future (for his WTF strategy) where we have universal employment and share the resources, even though we accomplish nothing and have even less to show for it.
National Monorail!
Everything else expensive he’s tried has failed. Why should this be any different?

Back to the Future with Engineer Obama.
We had high speed rail service in this country. 100 years ago passenger trains hit speeds of over 100 mph.
But that was at a time when passenger traffic justified the expense of maintaining rails and roadbed that could handle those speeds. Today’s track is designed for freight moving at much slower speeds.
Rail was the main transportation in the country. There were no airlines. There were barely any highways. Those days are gone. The only way that railroads will invest in high speed track is if we all decide once again that we want to travel by train. It isn’t going to work if it is a top down decision by over-reaching politicians. We don’t need a boondoggle like Obama is pushing to enrich his cronies.
At any rate we have high speed transit for inner cities, esp. Philadelphia.
It's called car-jacking.
Someone is paying off big. Or already paid and is getting stiffed.

“Those tin geese used to be fast until the TSA.”
Hope your not falling for Obama’s lie that there won’t be TSA at the rail stations. There will most definitely be a government gauntlet you will have to pass through and if there is ever a security threat on the high speed trains, they will be as tight as the airports including body scans and pat downs.
It isn't the railroads that are trying to bestow this steaming pile of expense upon us - these would be government-run railroads. Think of Amtrak with a much, much bigger budget (and a much, much bigger subsidy).
AMTRAK is overpriced, yet the government lost a billion dollars running it last year. After Barry figures out how to run AMTRAK then we can talk about his next white elephant.
