I wonder if Ryan believes that Obama actually wants to get entitlements under control. He doesn’t. He wants to ramp up spending to the point where it can’t be cut and we go back to confiscatory taxes on pretty much everyone in the top 50% of income. Ryan and the GOP need to put out a coordinated major effort to let people know there is an alternative. Yet the GOP leadership is too scared to do so. They think the American people don’t want entitlement cuts so they are afraid to propose them.

Rep Ryan: Please stop dragging your feet on budget cuts—and forcing the freshman representatives to pull you along.

I wonder if Ryan actually believes Obama is capable of leadership. It’s a presidential quality notably lacking in our current POTUS: his chronic tendency to vote “present” in the Illinois Senate suggests lack of leadership is an enduring character trait. So why Ryan expects Obama suddenly to become something he never has been is beyond me.

Ryan knows the president is a snake. Just because he calls on the president to lead does not mean he expects him to accept the challenge.

Message to Paul Ryan: Whether "Obama" cares about entitlements or the out-of-control deficit is irrelevant.

He is NOT going to help you Republicans take the heat, he is going to BLAME you for killing grannies and starving babies, even if your "cuts" are a dime instead of the $750 billion which is required.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

The problem is to the extent democrats want to make any entitlement cuts is the extent they just want to free up money to pay for new beneficiaries. If they need extra money, they will pull it out of the Pentagon. Besides the greater risk to national security (an actual Constitutionally enumerated power), they will eventually run out of money anyway as entitlements invariably grow bigger and more costlier.

R’s like Ryan are aware of this and probably only thinking the way to get overwhelming majorities and the presidency back. They will be demagogued by democrats, but much the same way the democrats rammed Obamacare through, R’s can only hope they can ram entitlement reform through and hope it doesn’t cost them too much politically so that democrats can undo it in following election cycles.

Basically, we have a very narrow path to solvency. Our only hope is that the American people wake up and don’t punish Republicans for doing what is necessary. In all likelihood, the system will probably just collapse before we can get anything done. Pretty depressing.

Paul Ryan to Obama: Stop punting on entitlements, start acting like a leader

How exactly do you act like a leader?
You are either a leader or you are not.
After 2 years is there anyone in this Country that can HONESTLY say that Obama is a leader?

Neither Ryan nor Boehner have really shown an eagerness to force Obama to pull back. The GOP need to focus on the debt ceiling and say "The out of control spending stops here". But I see no willingness to do so.

I’ll state the Obvious.

Entitlements are just another element in the Cloward Piven Strategy.

Obama has been trained since birth on how to collapse the economy and he is NOT going to deviate from the plan.

On Sunday I received a call from John Boehner, Republican Speaker of the House - I listened to the taped mesage and did the survey. I was informed that in order for John Boehner to do his job he needed a donation of 100.00 or 200.00 a month

I let the lady know that John Boehner needs to make some sacrifices as do many in DC, take a pay cut and pay for their own entertainment costs. I hang up on the phone call because I got tired of the BS being spouted about bipartisanship

RE :”Ryan’s biggest complaint against Obama is that the president likes to punt on the huge problem of entitlements, which is one of the greatest contributors to the enormous deficit the US faces. Aggravated by Obama, Ryan challenged the president to finally start acting like a leader and lead on the issue of entitlements.

The liberal MSM : Matthews, David Gregory, Joe Scarbouro, David Brooks (note the last two claim they are conservative) even Chris Wallace are all calling for Republicans to unilaterally cut SS and medicare(and commit political suicide). I don't remember hearing them call on the Pelosi congress to do this, suddenly with a Republican House SS is a problem.

But while they (MSM) are calling for REPUBLICANS to do this on TV/cable, they do not explain how those entitlements cause Deficits. No one is explaining that SS and medicare are running deficits, and creating national deficits. They let their progressive brothers and sisters get away with claiming there is that huge SS surplus. Here's what Republicans can expect if they are not careful in handling this issue:

>> Paul Ryan is on our side.

He’s not on my side. Promised $100 billion in cuts... weaseled down to less than one third that.

The (R)s are driving us over the same cliff, just more slowly. That’s not *my* ideals.

"They think the American people don’t want entitlement cuts so they are afraid to propose them."

It seems counter intuitive to assert that people who will be negatively affected by entitlement cuts want those entitlement cuts.

in the game of 'good cop-bad cop' that CONgress always plays, the rin-o-p is supposed to be the 'responsibly' 'old' man party...ya know the 'git off my lawn' type fuddy dudies...

they have the majority, so they are sposed to call for the things that the commies can declare no fun and painful...when the sheep vote the commies back in, then everybody can bitch and moan about no adult supervision at the flower power lsd party, and then the rin-o-p can take the stifling 'lead' again...

wash-rinse-repeat...

No kidding. I think FR has been overrun by phony conservatives who are here just to sow discontent. Paul Ryan is a rock and he's trying harder than any elected official in the last 50 years to get our spending under control and he gets lambasted here daily. I guess they expected him to snap his fingers and cure 100 years of fiscal irresponsibility.

Tell the same people who criticize Ryan for not doing enough that the entitlement reform they are all calling for will have to include reforming SS and Medicare and then stand back. All the calls for everyone else to tighten their belts are quickly forgotten.

It makes me wonder if I really want to stick around here anymore, I've been a Freeper since 1998 and a monthly donor for years but it's just not what it once was.
