The party staged by Andrew Breitbart for GOProud the gay Republican and conservative group was as close to a game changer as things get and the most interesting event at CPAC by far, at least to this point and thats meant as no insult to CPAC. With sexy Sophie B. Hawkins singing to a boisterous, supportive crowd, the party almost obliterated in one night the conception that Republicans are anti-gay and gave the impression that young libertarians and some not so young are taking over the GOP. Pretty soon it may be cool to be a Republican and square to be a Democrat.
Well, maybe thats what I wanted to see and wanted to feel, but the atmosphere was certainly there Thursday night at DCs Eighteenth Street Lounge. People wandered the clubs corridors in wonderment at it all. No, there werent any leather biker studs or other accoutrements of the more outre gay scene, but there was as much acceptance of our modern world as at Democratic Party events, especially national ones of the scope of CPAC.
Does this indeed mean that libertarianism in its various strains is taking over the GOP? Again, that is possibly wishful thinking (and I wouldnt want it to be that brand of libertarianism that seems to think the common defense can be accomplished with BB guns in someones garage), but there are indications across CPAC. Again, maybe this is anecdotal, but Ive hardly heard much talk of abortion or other social issues at the conference and when I have it seems vaguely discordant or anachronistic. Most people wanted to discuss the economy or the looming dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood. And, of course, who would be best to put Barack Obama out of office.

The sole purpose of the Republican Party is to serve as an ineffective alternative to the Democrat Party.
I agree CPAC is dead to me now, since the liberals and libertarians are now trying to use our convention to determine what we should as conservatives accept as part of our views.
It’s time they had their own convention and piss off.
As for the Ron Paul lot , well they are being loud and rude as usual.
Trump who has given more to Dems is now trying to use our convention and hoodwink us into voting for him and even last night I had a couple on here saying he’;s a conservative and that I’m lying about him being liberal on certain issues and that he’s more of a Dem .
Maybe it’s time for a conservative convention with just conservatives sites like this there.
Because people won’t subscribe to it. Those who consider themselves libertarian are latching on to the GOP in the same way communists latched on to the Democratic Party to advance their agenda from within an acceptable political brand.
It's no longer Conservative.
correct libertarians have now infiltrated our convention
is the homo agenda a conservative cause or is a natural traditional family, upbringing, teaching?
I ask you thins as you pointed out how AB will now be attacked for being pro homo but was wondering where you stood on this issue as you never said but did have a little rant against this site.
allies are easy to stop.
those who stand for conservative principles like traditional normal marriage.
It’s very easy really to understand IMHO, I’m sure you agree that those who are for the homosexual agenda and have fisting taught in schools are not conservatives right and need to be told piss off to the libertarian party and convention?
We only have to look at this thread and those defending those who stand with the homosexual agenda and not the traditional family etc to see that their infiltration and division is working.
Even on here after time and time again posters have been told that they are not here to champion the homosexual agenda or defend it and still they come on here doing so.
are you pro homosexual?
Is the homosexual agenda conservative?
yes or no would be suffice.
Last night you also told me that I was lying about Trump and how is more of a Dem.
Well I sent you proof he is more of a Dem.
Now will you stop and research issues before you accuse people of lying.
I asked you those questions as your posts seem pro homosexual, not conservative and you defend the likes of Trump is not a conservative and now you defend a man who is socially liberal.
I look forward to your answer
It took me a minute to get that straight in my head. Lots of changing thought directions there. Opposes anti ... that punish those who oppose perversion. As I said, it seems to me they say those matters are reserved for the states to decide, not the federal government. Do you disagree?
I think you are seeing monsters under the bed. Their website looks fine to me and I have seen none of what you fear.
their whole manifesto is about the homosexual agenda and to force people to accept their perversion.
I’ll ask you as I asked someone else.
Is the conservative agenda conservative in your view?
Should law now be based on sexual preference?
if yes then you’re more of a libertarian not a conservative and maybe you need to find another site and get a socially liberal convention going.
One does have to dig a bit and educate oneself on GOProud’s agenda and character. People like Breitbart have generally been trusted and considered strong conservative advocates so their word on these groups is easily taken at face value. People want to believe the best and don’t expect to be misled by those they thought were trustworthy.
Fortunately, we have numerous outlets by which we can inform ourselves now though.
nail on head, well said
I would be content with leaving issues of marraige, age of consent, public decency, etc... to the State level but it is being pushed by the left at the federal level in multiple ways. Activist judges are also a huge problem as well.
Show me though where GOProud opposes using federal or state laws to punish people and businesses as is being done in numerous states today and is being pushed for by the left on a federal level?
GOProud is a group defined by their homosexuality. If they are conservative then they should be speaking out against these laws that dictate special perversion rights.
They instead actually support them just as they support special perversion rights in the military. Radio host Mulzberg asked one once why a soldier should be forced to shower and bunk with someone who openly professes homosexual perversions and the guy answered that it was the soldier who had no right and that he shouldn’t have joined.
Well said. My thing is I don’t really care what these people do in the privacy of their own home. I don’t want to turn on the TV and have it thrown in my face on every single channel. Since this group is of the non-flamboyant persuasion I could really care less what party they’re supporting.
So you are just worried about your television viewing?
I guess the people and businesses that are being punished financially by the agenda of GOProud means nothing to you?
Thanks for the link. I’ve noticed that there are more and more Libertarians on FreeRepublic, as well. They are vociferous in telling us what they don’t believe, but we hear very little about what positions that they support.
I’m not so concerned with the Gay rights or abortion. I think that the GOproud party was an intentional statement that they think that they have taken over the GOP. It’s troubling because I think that they will split off and run Ron Paul as a third party candidate if they don’t get their way. I think Ron Paul is scary on foreign policy.
My thoughts are that we shouldn’t allow the Libertarians to distract on social issue differences and make then tell us what they support, not what they don’t support.
Thanks for sticking with me, folks. I have done the research you suggested and I have changed my mind. You are right and I was wrong. Sorry, wita, but we lacked sufficient information. As for you, manc, I have been an active contributor to this site ten years longer than you and may have offered more value than you ever will. Take your advice for me to find another site and stick it!
