Worst part is I don’t trust the republican leadership not to “compromise” this absurd proposal into existence.

Actually $53 Billion would barely get it off the ground, it would cost at least $100 billion and require billions in subsidies every year.

The workers would all be unionized for the Democrats of course.

The High Speed Gravy Train to Nowhere.

As always, follow the money. The manufacturers and contractors (and other beneficiaries) are obviously supporters.

What’s with the liberal preoccupation with high-speed rail?

Indeed, I was watching MSNBC the other day, and a liberal pundit--I think it was Chris Matthews--was praising rail travel and evoking the age of Lincoln. In this age of Boeing 787's and Interstate freeways, why, indeed, are liberals obsessed with choo-choo trains?

This is Biden’s farewell gesture to Wilmington before his replacement in the 2012 campaign.

‘Maybe I’m a little slow …’

We know Amtrak is subsidized by the government so will High Speed Rail.
We know, just like the TSA, Progressive Socialist will want to unionize the High Speed Rail service. Future strikes anyone? But who will use High Speed Rail service. Just like other countries, it will be middle to upper income people. (The wealthy will still drive.)So, in reality, The lower income and poor will subsidize the service for the more affluent.
A study was done in Ohio. Their purpose High Speed Rail service would average 38 miles per hour because of all the stops.

The Rats are determined to take us out of our cars by making fuel too expensive to drive for anyone except the elite. They are preparing the “high speed rail” as the transportation for the masses.

in fact, anybody that’s ever given any serious thought to Amtrak at all, tend to blow beer through their noses at the thought of giving the government another train set to play with.

Now that's funny.

“What’s with the liberal preoccupation with high-speed rail?”

Libs wish to take away all individual freedoms, and to get people to continue to vote libs into power. Notice increasingly in elections the large majority of Dem voters come from large cities, most of which have union-controlled mass transit present.

In order to do get these two objectives, one of the chief ways is to get people out of personal automobiles and into mass transit, which libs can use to control lives much easier.

The libs use as an excuse the drummed-up “energy crisis” to scare individuals into believing they need the govt to do something to “save” them. So out comes mass transit in the form of high speed rail, saving energy and supposedly a convenience to people.

Libs will not rest until all are under the control of govt. They will move as many they can into cities where unions are strong and control is the greatest.

I’m sure you will find, just like ethanol and airport scanners, that significant numbers of government officials have lare stakes in the companies that will develop this technology.

Railroads are not only unionized they are about the strongest union around. Look up the origin of the term featherbeading. They have there own retirement system with different IRS rules than others. Throw them a bone Joe, and they’ll keep backing Democrats.

There is only one reason to push for this.

It would be because airline traffic will not be allowed except for top government and military folks.

Too expensive, too security intensive, people have stopped flying anyway, airlines can’t profit with oil shooting through the roof, government will run the airlines and don’t have to worry about being profitable, etc. There will be a bunch of different rationalization reasons thrown out depending who’s asking the question.

This is all being done to restrict movement of people in the country.
